Description
Potential spoilers for RWBY Volume 7 perhaps? LOLJaune fights Neo, gets squished by her thighs. To her pleasant surprise, Jaune’s actually wanting her to go tighter. Everyone else who had her legs around them always pleaded to be released. She’s shocked, is all.
Thanks to Jaune’s sacrifice, Neo is preoccupied while everyone else is beating up Cinder

So at this point Jaune is so bland that he's become the series'"Insert Harem Protagonist Here" character. Neat.

I mean, you could argue that Weiss ticks all the boxes for "insert tsundre character here" as well. While it's kinda true, in doing so you're simplifying their character and ignoring the nuances and details of who they are.

Okay, but Weiss has a personality beyond "typical tsundere". Jaune, meanwhile, is JUST an archetype. Dorky loser meets hot girl who falls in love with him for whatever reason. She dies, dorky loser becomes a strong warrior type guy and beats the big bad. Tell me that doesn't fit Jaune to a T.

I could just as easily say that Weiss is just an archetype of "Prideful and isolated rich girl is forced to interact with those outside her social standing, befriends them and learns to defy her controlling father". While it might fit her "to a T", it still reduces her character and ignores large parts of her role.

Fair point. But I personally believe Jaune to be the weakest "main" character in the show. He might have a personality buried in there somewhere, but fuck me do the writers not give him many opportunities to show it! At least Oscar "he's literally designed like a block of wood" Pine has an interesting dynamic with Ozpin. It basically boils down to "your teacher lives in my head", but it's something. Jaune? They put him in a box and forgot about him.

Jaune's got plenty of personality, it just isn't thrown in our faces every episode. Jaune's dependable, earnest, and genuinely thinks people to be inherently good (a belief that he's struggling to reconcile with the evil he's encountered.) He's a lot like Sam Gamgee from LOTR.

Y'nkow what? That's actually a fair assessment. I guess my bias comes from how overdone his character is. He's genuinely likable, but he's also easily replaceable. I guess I just want him to have something that sets him apart from the rest of the shounen anime protagonists.
That and the shipping. Him and Yang are shipped with LITERALLY EVERYBODY!

I can't comment on him being like a "shounen anime protagonist", since I don't watch any anime outside of RWBY, but the best analogy I've seen for the Jaune shipping is that he's vanilla ice cream.
It's paired with a lot of other deserts, not because it's flavorless but because it's got a flavor that goes really well with lots of others, enhancing the taste of both in the process.
