i was reading the part where L died in class and tears were in my eyes (i know dramatic but i loved L XD) and the person sitting next me asked if i was ok and i told him "yeah my best friend just died ;-; dont mind me" and when it first introuduced near the only thing i thought was L replacement but i ended up liking near

I wonder how it feels for you to have predicted that someone at least attempts to avenge kira in the new movie? I haven't seen Light Up The New World yet so don't quote me on this please. but from what I gathered from the trailer at least one person wanted to avenge/be kira or something along those lines.

Call me crazy but I was sad when Light died. I wanted him to win. Especially against Near.
If Light was going to lose, I would have wanted him to lose to L. Not someone who just feels like a complete copy of L with almost everything he does. Only reason Light loses is because of Mikame. It's not because Near outsmarts him, or that Near is better than L, it's because Mikame manages a slip up that screws up everything. Light tells him not to make any unnecessary moves until after the meeting at the warehouse. Yet, despite Light telling him this, he wrote that girl's name in his death note, one minute after Light had already killed her. You may be wondering how this screwed everything up. Well, Mikame changed his usual time table, and went to the bank twice in one month, even though he usually only went once. This caused Near and his team to find the REAL notebook that Mikame had kept hidden all that time. They ended up getting into his box that he hid it in, and obviously replaced the pages. So it's not anything to do with Near being intelligent, really. It's only because Mikame screwed up EVERYTHING.

I kinda wish I had stopped reading Death Note after L died. All the tension in the entire manga seemed to have been lost, Near and Mello are not up to L's standard and don't have enough personality or traits that are not copies of L's that makes them able to stand on their own as characters and... so much text. But considering that Light is never in the room with the ones who are trying to take over L's position until the very last few chapters, we again lack tension or interest.
Really, my personal canon is L died and then Light got so bored, he eventually killed himself.

actually the one on screen was in fact L, but it was just an act so he could fool Kira because he knows that light is kira and therefore L is a genuis that faked his death... and he faked it because he had another case to work on... oh and for Near to get experience

Please, no. I know the anime shortened several chapters into less episodes, but it didn't need to be longer. Bad enough that we only have 108 Chapters because the mangaka wanted 108 Chapters (with the number's meaning and all) and it resulted in horrible pacing for the second half... we don't need something like that in the anime, too. I'd prefer a change of the ending, if anything - like my personal fantasy where I insert myself and then beat up Near for daring to say L was not as good as him. L only lost cause Kira had a supreme joker card - had he not had that, Kira would've been caught. (I really don't like Near...)
Also, Light and Misa need to have a child.

actually i was referring to the part of where L was still on-screen, also i don't understand why so many people dislike near, there is nothing in the anime that says near has ever met l, so i guess i can understand how he didn't react how he didn't react like Mello did, also he is very level-headed so he could have been trying to keep his emotions in... i just can't believe he would use l money like he did, but it was also understandable.(btw, lots of people dislike near so you have a right to as well, more for me anyway... and i really don't like light...)

I don't like Near because he is a blatant copy of L. Mello is, too - they cut up L's two aspects: the sweet-tooth eater is Mello and Near is the asocial, weirdly-sitting aspect of L. It's bad enough when you replace a character with a very similar one to begin with, but doing it twice? And at the same time.
The other problem is that... after L dies, the manga is REALLY boring. Lots of text to read, which was also there when L was still alive, but the atmosphere has also changed. So hey, Light has survived L and has no real problem anymore... six years later, just LOOK at Light. He acts in a way like he's bored. He's bored being Kira (and barely even DOES anything as Kira anymore) and I think it's because L is gone. He thought L was the only one worthy of him and Near and Mello just don't hold a candle.
And if half of the manga is filled with a Protagonist who doesn't care about any feud with the antagonists anymore, it's boring to read and it makes the new characters look really bad. And those bad characters finally bring Light down? Yeah, no. Especially not because they not only used a loophole, and a really dumb one at that, to win but also CHEATED as well, since it's potentially mentioned that maybe Near used the Death Note to manipulate things into his favor with Mikami. (This was changed in the anime - Mikami kills himself rather stupidly, so the potential was removed)

I could never trust the show again.Β You don't do that to your readers/watchers...You don't just kill the main protagonist/antagonist...Β I'm sure Mello and Near are great, but once I've lost faith in a show, that's it. :c I am so sad because there could have been such a perfect ending with a climax between L and Light and they just kind of botched the whole thing.

Well the way the manga does eventually end... it's unsatisfying. I guess this is just one manga where you WANT the villain to win in the end or just need that epic tension between L and Light.
