Description
KLANK! BLANG! Helmet and Datacable battle it out in a fight to an involuntary reboot! Things are looking pretty evenly matched so far, with both fighters showing some visual sensor damage and coolant loss, each boxer's chest plate hanging on by a single screw (they love that at ringside!!). Helmet's starting to lose some lubricant, but it looks like she's popped one of Datacable's hydraulic lines with that left!!Updated 8/23 - changed Datacable's midriff to correct something that was bugging me, and added a touch more coolant splash to her "nosebleed" - Go get 'em, girls!!

it's like they say: "Robot foxy boxing - built hot, programmed to destroy!"

I have the distinct impression that there are some bad fluids (coolant, hydraulic and lubricant) between these two! Just listen to this prefight trash talk!
Helmet: "My opponent's boxing skills are even more limited than her computing power. Even without an emotion expansion pack I will take pleasure in battering her until her hard drive crashes."
Datacable: "My opponent's comments are obviously intended to convince those in attendance of her pugilistic superiority. However after I have completed my task of rendering her temporarily nonfunctional with my fists she will be suitable only for use as parts for other obsolete boxing units."
WHOA!!

Judging from the denting on the right side of Datacable's face, Helmet is the harder puncher. Add that ruptured hydraulic line to the mix, and it looks like Datacable might just be in trouble.
Then again, Helmet's left optical sensor is already going dim, and if she continues to lose lubricant that could definitely slow her down - and if her chest plate comes off then her tape drive (reel to reel - how old school!) is dangerously exposed.
Since both are programmed to fight to a win (or go down fighting), I guess it's all a matter of who lands the "blue screen of death" punch first! Anyway, they've both come a long way from their start as sparringbots (with programming that just reads "jab jab jab" - and is prone to going into an infinite loop...)
If I had to pick, I'd probably pull for Datacable - though when the dust settles, I'm sure the winner will go back to her gym (shop?) for repairs and updates, and the loser will get rebuilt and reprogrammed with an optical sensor towards a rematch down the road!

DATACABLE IS ANGRY THAT HER OPPONENT HAS DAMAGED US THIS WAY!
this is the big fuse blow Datacable spurts, in the previous round prior to the one you picture!
in my opinion Datacable want's success more than anything.

Even though they're robots, and in theory wouldn't have emotions or desires, I think you're right about Datacable being angry and wanting the win - and I'll bet that Helmet feels the same way! I suspect that for a robot boxer to be successful, it would have to be capable of some degree of independent thought - since when the punches start flying, there's no time to wait for someone to tell you what to think! So if we take independent thought as a given, then it's only a short step to each of them realizing that they're programmed with the same goal - knock out the robot in front of you! So if they both come to this realization - and I suspect that it would be inevitable - then naturally they with also both realize that only one of them can successfully carry out her programming, and that opens up the whole can of worms of them starting to dislike each other and wanting the victory badly enough to push themselves to their (mechanical) limits to win.
Besides, if I was programming a robot boxer, I know I'd probably add a few lines of programming that would make her want to pound her opponent into scrap metal and feel some satisfaction when she succeeded! Because, you know, a little extra fierceness isn't a bad thing to have in a boxing robot! (Or, in the words of Helmet, "I am not programmed to be capable of hate though in the case of Datacable I am willing to make an exception.")
Also, robot boxers who clearly WANT to smash each other up are a lot more fun to draw than robots who are programmed to jab and dodge punches with mechanical aptitude and no passion! And if they had no personalities, why would their trainers/mechanics/programmers go to the effort of repairing and rebuilding them to fight again instead of just starting over with a new one? I mean, who wants to cheer for a machine? But a machine who comes back to her corner between rounds with a shattered optical sensor and a ruptured hydraulic hose in her mouth and says to you, "fix me so I can go back out there and win this fight," well, wouldn't you want to do everything you could to help her? Plug in your laptop and grab that roll of duct tape, because the break between rounds is only a minute long!

i hope plenty of action after the maintenance is carried out, these fight-bots give each other more bashing. i still say Datacable will have it in the bag, btw you gave us a super idea, in my mind after watching a long time ago, on the BBC, then on channel 5 here in the u.k., a show called robot wars, i think i'll draw some supreme fight-bots and set them to battle each other.each fembot shall be dressed to kill, box clever, cos it's in their programming, boxing babe droids with a hunger for busting each other's' circuits out, over 5 3minute rounds. i know it might be a challenge, but that will soon surface, check our metal bashers in my gallery, about this time next month!

There's absolutely more action to come in the battle between Datacable and Helmet - so far they're proving to be fun to draw, and that's the big thing that keeps me drawing (plus I'm inspired by their fight-to-an-involuntary-reboot showdown - after all, they're robots, so it's not like they're going to get tired out...). Anyway, as I've already said, I'm inclined to pull for Datacable (I think it's her tall ring boots and ribbon cable ponytail), but Helmet's no pushover and she sure isn't going anywhere without a fight!
Intrigued to see what you come up with - but I'd say if they're programmed and hot to smash each other up, then can the scheduled distance and let them hammer away to a knockout! After all, they're fighters - let 'em fight!
Anyway, getting back to Helmet vs Datacable, when I look and see all the backstory and insane rationale for them I've posted here since Friday, I can't help but think that they're going to be around for some time to come - at least through the point where one of them gets knocked stiff at the end of their current fight!
