since in real life i can't, at least in a cartoon i'll ask those damn romans WHAT was up with them to use that horrible language!!! and plus why do italian schools teach it!for who never studied latin: it may be fun for some people, but believe me, it's the most hard and complicated and useless language ever!

Romano, I sooooo know your pain. I have been dying to learn Spanish for years, and I was really looking forward to when I would start learning it in highschool. But last year when that came, I had to learn Latin. It is not easy, and even though I get the verb congugation, since it's used in other languages, I can't see why there has to be a noun congugation also. Plus, Latin is mainly only used for stuff relating to the church, and it's so not going to help me with touring.
ECHODVCC
P.S. Earlier today, I was singing a funny song about how the word Romano was in my Latin book. It means something like to the Roman.

Italian and other romance languages originated from Latin. Some churches still use the Latin language... eh what am I saying, you'll still dislike it

Learning latin is so hard...especially when it was during 6th grade. The books were boring! I still liked the language though. I'm still working on it.

japanese!! i wanted to learn that too, but right now i don't have the time.. however, that's a really hard language too, i think!

Voaz-Kzrhovb In reply to Ezia-Auditrice [2011-12-05 21:25:38 +0000 UTC]
no, its really quite basic actually. the only hard thing about japanese is the fact that the writing of it is complicated, and you must remember what 'particles' connect what,
and a few other things, but its better than having to learn feminine and masculine words sepreately, and almost nothing in japanese has a dirty sound-a-like
aside from when you sing the 't' section of the alphabet the symbols "chi" and "tsu" are right next to each other and together those words mean.... other than penis...

lolol well if it's not that hard, i might try to learn japanese some day...
lol in latin there's not only feminine and masculine words... there's neutral words too!! D:

hahaha oh well that makes sense then XD i though you were being ironic
well since we have 5 years to study latin we never really learned by memory a list of words... but we memorized all the grammar rules (so the 5 declinations and all the verbs coniugations) in the first two years and since then we translate a lot from latin using a dictionary.. and after 5 years you basically know a lot of words only form experience (so i idk exacly how many i know.. ^^)

I'm planning to transfer, though....to a friend's high school.

Aw, Latin is not useless! It is very handy for using huge-ass words in conversation to sound smart learning derivatives and to learn Italian and the other Romance languages.
π: 0 β©: 1
Ezia-Auditrice In reply to Kolmoi [2011-08-07 19:29:11 +0000 UTC]
ok then i'll rewrite it correctly: latin is useless when you ALREADY know Italian and can therefore easely learn the other Romance languages
naaah i'm joking, it's supposed to be useful to better understand grammar too... although when we studied italian grammar in middle school they told us that we studied it to better understand latin in high school..

Kolmoi In reply to Ezia-Auditrice [2011-08-08 00:47:04 +0000 UTC]
True, true. It DOES help you sound smart and say words like "undulating", though.

hahaha that's right. that doesn't work in italian tho, cuz all words come from latin so for me it's just useless. lol XD

finally someone who feels my pain D:
i go to an all girls school so it's compulsory to do 2 years. but they tricked me into thinking i was good at it, so i chose to do ANOTHER TWO YEARS. so i started my GCSE and THEN they tell me "oh yeah, by the way, there's all this grammar stuff we didn't tell you about...enjoy!"
D:

hah latin grammar is something you should never trust in... when you're sure you finally know all you need you always find out some particular rule or exception you didn't know about!
this is my fourth year of latin and i have one more!!

it is terrible. i had an exam today, and i got caught out by this one sneaky little line "uxore sua necata" and because i got it slightly wrong ( i said "his wife having killed him") i then proceeded to get the following three lines all wrong DAD TIMES
π: 0 β©: 1
Ezia-Auditrice In reply to Denarniac [2011-06-09 21:45:51 +0000 UTC]
ugh! that happens all the time.. for me it's actually a little easier cuz italian comes directly from latin so u usually kind of understand something when you read the latin phrases... although most of times words in italian that come from latin changed their meaning so if u try to translate saying what you think the words mean based on how similar they are to italian u usually get everything wrong lol XD
π: 0 β©: 1
Denarniac In reply to Ezia-Auditrice [2011-06-11 10:39:29 +0000 UTC]
i hear you. or then when you get two words that are SO DAMN SIMILAR but mean completely different things. like iaceo and iacio. what moron thought that would be a good idea? the number of times i've translated something as "he threw his wife" or "the sailors lied him off the boat"
π: 0 β©: 1
Ezia-Auditrice In reply to Denarniac [2011-06-11 18:00:16 +0000 UTC]
hahahaha XD not to mentions the words that by themselves can mean completely different things.. i mean there are words like that in italian too (and i english probably too) but in latin it happens all the time! i hate when teachers say "you have to judge the meaning by its contexts"... how can i understand the context if i don't know the meaning of the words?? XD
π: 0 β©: 1
Denarniac In reply to Ezia-Auditrice [2011-06-14 11:03:58 +0000 UTC]
EXACTLY!
"well see rebecca, you must look at the context..." i'm not being funny or anything, but i had to translate a piece about some cyclops that had captured a bunch of fugitives and it said that "they escaped, hanging underneath the sheep" HOW DOES THAT SOUND RIGHT!?
i spent no less than ten minutes trying to figure out if i'd mistranslated pendens. what a stupid language >.>

Ezia-Auditrice In reply to Denarniac [2011-06-14 19:35:39 +0000 UTC]
hahaha well it does sound right when u study the Odyssey for a whole year... cuz then you know Ulysses escaped the cyclope by hanging under a sheep lol. but i think they teach that stuff only in italy these days
plus the Odyssey is greek. those romans copyed everything from greece. and yup their language is stupid
π: 0 β©: 1
Denarniac In reply to Ezia-Auditrice [2011-06-15 07:25:24 +0000 UTC]
lol we were going to study the odyssey but my teacher decided we needed to improve our latin by translating tacitus and ovid instead. what. a. rave.
:/
