You can do whatever you want. Once you purchase the character belongs to you.

Can I have them put 'On Hold'?
Yes. But the hold lasts a week tops.
Unless you're sure you can pay it do not ask for on hold.

Can I buy more than one?
Yes, you may.

Other questions:

Why is this one more expensive than the others?
Sometimes I may want to keep an Adopt I made, so I'll make them more expensive. Unless someone else really wants them, I usually end up keeping the expensive ones.
