I hear that because of the size, it can have it's own micro weather inside.

I would agree!Β It was neat seeing this facility.Β I have always had an interest in the old rigid dirigibles.Β I would love to visit the hangars as NAS Lakehurst and the hangars at the former NAS Moffett Field as well.

I saw the outside of the one at Moffett Field, years ago. Surprising how big it is!

I have always been interested in the USS Akron and Macon. Β It was neat to be able to visit the site they were manufactured.

I am amazed the place has remained standing. What do you use an airship hangar for, if you don't have any airships?

I think it is now owned by Lockheed/ Martin. The facility exists and it is paid for, so I guess they keep using it.
During WWII, Goodyear built FG Corsairs at this plant as well as Naval Blimps.

It would be practical for making blimps, of course.

It is the 'Airdock' in Akron Ohio where the ZRS-4, USS Akron and ZRS-5, USS Macon were constructed.
