Description
So turns out that Udon Entertainment has it's own DA page: . Recently they uploaded this sketch of Chun Li by Alvin Lee in higher res, so that people may try and color it. It's been a while since I did something for the fun of it, so I did this inbetween working on projects. It's not super-refined, but it was cool to do, just throwing a bunch of colors together and cutting loose.Pencils: Alvin Lee
Colors: Me (Monk)
Software: Photoshop CS
/EDIT: fixed some little lighting issues and did some subtle color changes. Not a whole, but worth it.

WOW! Man, that's awesome !
I love the rendering, this is exactly the kind of thexture I'd like to do on my coloring stuff. You know, a style of coloring like Richard Isanove is doing on some Marvel's comics covers.
Could you tell me what kind of brush did you use ? You know, all the options you took for it... if it doesn't bother you to share your secret

It's the standard hard edge round brush in Photoshop. Only difference is I put the opacity and flow control set to pen pressure (and I leave both opacity and flow at 100%).

Fabian,
You collab with alvin is great. You did justice to his drawing with your colors. And since you are on a very high level i donΒ΄t know what i can say.
But iΒ΄ve still a few critics. I think the yellow lines on her clothes could be more yellow/gold so you have a little contrast in the pic, because now itΒ΄s "too much blue" for my taste.
Thanks for sharing and have with your next pics.

Interessant.

tight. he did a nice job on the camera angle, but im not too fond how he did her face. i like how you shaded her arms under her sleeves. and you gave her a cold heh

Hahaha, it's a noise filter dude. In fact I got that from Oli, he did a little step by step on how he does it. I think it's in the "Happiness is a Bluebird" step by step.

hmm, i don't think the lightsource direction on the arm quite matches up with that on the face?

I think it can be fixed by adding more light on her left arm, (more so from her elbow joint and upper arm) as well as making sure the light source is coming from her right (so the shadows on her left side are correct). Just a little more light there, and it would be perfect ^_^ (remember, I said -her- left, not ours *__*)
I think you did a wonderful job with coloring her. Loving the color tones and texture!

FabianMonk In reply to Stygians-Fool [2007-01-07 14:56:29 +0000 UTC]
I left the upper part of her left arm in shadow on purpose though. It's cocked back a little, away from the viewer, covered by that gigantic shoulder thing she's got going.
I originally even had an equal amount of light hitting her left upper arm, but I think it creates much more depth this way.
