Well his backstory is rather dark... he cones fron the game don't starve which plays in a world abstract yet familiar. People can only get to this world if they are being tricked into a portal that is a one way gate to this world. Webber was a human child when he stranded in this world and got eaten by a spider of this world but for a unknown reason the spider was unable to digest him so instead the child fused with the spider. He was now being rejected and seen as a monster which is why he always says that spiders are the only ones who understand him

Its essentially sad when he says stuff like when he inspects a carrot: "i kinda miss being forced to eat these"
Or when he looks at a pumpkin lantern he says "me and grandpa used to make those!"
