This week for character design we had to team up and redesign the characters from Titan A.E. I had a fabulous group, and we all lived and breathed this project for most of our planning time. All the characters were a collaboration so even though I was responsible for Akima there are many elements to her design that I owe to several people. Akima's collar and face tattoos were designed by the lovely Jen Hom, and Akima's symbol, the crescent moon and pocket belt was conceived by Alex Brewer. Lia Marcoux was in charge of inking all our characters (she has an impeccable hand). I tweaked the design quite a bit the entire week, and after critique I pulled in Akima's eyes since my professor had a problem with the stylization of her face. As soon as I get permission from my other group members I will post their main characters which were all wonderful. The main point with Akima was to make her both strong and warm, and to make her an obvious symbol for the hope of new earth and nostalgia for old earth, which is why she carries a bit of earth in her pendant at all times.
