Description
Anaco (derived from Avonaco, Cheyenne for lean bear) is the leader of the Man Village in 's comic, "The Blackblood Alliance". He's got a slightly gimpy right leg which is why he walks around with a long gnarled staff. Embedded in the staff are three cave bear claws and four bands of color wrap around it representing green for leadership, brown for power, gold for awareness, and blue for loyalty to the Village. The gold bracelets (two per wrist) and earrings (two per ear) he wears are both extremely valuable and indicate the power and wealth of the village leader. He brandishes them for spiritual, no greedy, reasons (also note the four earrings in his ears are the same kind worn by Swiftkill in some of Kay's pictures but not in the comic).Admittedly the likelihood that any culture just after the Ice Age could shape metal into earrings or bracelets is very slim, but remember the Village is a trading community (the reason why there's a need for sled-dog trainers and so many sled dogs) unlike the nomadic groups that would've normally roamed at this time. Trade with distant societies is very expensive, which is why very very few have jewelry. Most wear bone, stone, or wood decoration. The beads in Anaco's necklace and tops of his shoes are made from small polished stones.
Cave bears (or bears in general) are powerful intelligent creatures who dominate the Blackblood region and few would dare mess with them (even the mammoth hunting humans and Blackblood dires). They make a fitting totem for the village leader.

Eventually, they're integral to who the Blackbloods are and the history of Inaria.

He looks cool, I love the Cave bear idea, makes me wonder if Bloodspill ever tangled with one. By chance did he tattoo Swiftkill? Their tattoos are very similar.

Yes, but those are modern Native Americans that don't have facial hair. I've no idea whether or not ancient Native Americans had facial hair or not. Either way, it's my use of artistic license, and these aboriginals aren't necessarily Native Americans either. They could be ancient Europeans, or from Russia. The entire Arctic Circle area has a very similar style of dress and even language due to natives' ability to cross vast ice flows and communicate with their fellow whale and seal hunters. These people are entirely made up anyhow, not being of any specific ethnicity (note that Arri looks rather European, while Ixa looks more Eastern Native American, not even Inuit) but borrowing many cultural traits with the Inuit/Eskimo peoples.

Ahh xD; I apologize if I sounded rude or anything that wasn't intentional, I was just inquiring. Thanks for the explanation though 'cause I was kinda going all "Whee diversity O:" lookin' at the humans. I kinda got curious.

S'alright, if I were offended I wouldn't have answered your question. I thought of it myself when I was designing the humans.

I couldn't really see the brown stripe on his staff until you pointed it out in the description. Perhaps make the two browns a little more contrasting? Unless it's meant to be rather discreet...

That may be due to color differences between your computer and mine. I don't want too wild a contrast though; it's not an especially important part anyway.

This is so impressive, your ability to jump between humans and animals is something I am very jealous of ^.^ All the detail is wonderful and the accompaning information great as well, made me want to draw bears...which I did...now just can't scan...
Are you going to be drawing bears too? Roar? Bears?

I'm pretty sure Kay is doing all the animals; I'll just be doing the people and some of the backgrounds for when Hershel/Fauntleroy is too busy.

He looks so cool. I love his design. I like his eye markings, too. I like how everything is symbolized, which makes it very.. villagy-indian like.

It makes me happy to know you can draw old humans.
I don't know. I think old people are beautiful... That sounds so weird... Hmm.
I dunno. Cool stuff :3

This is awsome. I'm glad that humans will finally be playing some sort of role in the comics, and in the forums. I think role-playing humans is much more advanced than role-playing wolves, which is why I frown at some of the BBA role-players because of their unoriginality playing wolves. This will be new for people.
Besides, more people may get an interest if there are humans. Some people don't like animals as much.
So will you be drawing the humans for the comic?

I really like this design..and I'd like to note that your fingers aren't as squared up on this char sheet. Improvement! XD Also you've elaborated nicely on all the bits and pieces of culture in the description here, though I worry that all of this -wonderful- detail and information is going to have ahard time making it into the comic. Oh well, I trust the talent of its artist enough to believe she'll find a way.

Being able to repeat how each character looks is why I make these character sheets. They aren't just for Kay to plan around or players to refer to, but for me to print and stare at when I'm deciding where each character will go in frames.
