Description Sitting with Simba - Watercolour - 12" x 18" - April 2011

Well... this certainly didn't turn out the way I originally planned...

I had painted in a real dark background, but wasn't happy with it, so washed most of it out, as best as anyone can with watercolour, and I liked it even less.

So, in thinking that I had lost the painting altogether, I figured I would just play with it, and splattered paint here and there... and voila! I kinda like it!

Hope you like it too! Thanks for looking!

Thank you! Ha! She's really not that giant, I think the angle is a little deceiving though - oops!

It has a somewhat surreal feeling to it, I think because of the relative sizes of the two images. Reminds me a little of the Cheshire Cat.

Yes, I suppose the angle is a little deceiving, as far as their sizes are concerned, isn't it? I was just thrilled mostly with the cat, and how she turned out. I never thought I'd be successful at achieving any real sense of her markings, and was so afraid to lose the painting, just because of this. It's one of those love/hate paintings. I love it because it is my son and our 17-year old cat, so it is sentimental, but hate that I didn't reach the goal that I had set out for with it... ah... are we ever really happy? That is the question of the hour!

Ah! to answer that is tough. Are we ever happy? Sometimes I feel great satisfaction when I stand back and look at one of my pieces. Usually I have trouble seeing the "big picture" when I just finish it. I have to turn away, even just to get a drink, walk back in the room and say, "Ah, yes that is nice." However lately I have had the feeling you describe. Not sure, hopefully just hitting a bump in the road that is creating.

It's very nicely done. I like that effect, how the water blends the color in some areas. Gives it a kind of different style.

Thanks! I really wasn't sure, and I had put quite a bit of time into the cat, that I didn't want to lose the painting altogether. I'm happy enough with it the way it turned out, and I can handle a little change every now and then!
