What's the Buzz? (Tell me what's a Happening)12" x 18" - Watercolour - August 2011
This is something I started way back in May and kept tossing it aside because of other things on the go. When I finally got back to it, I panicked because there was frisket applied in certain areas, and I was worried that when removing it, it would tear the paper. Fortunately it did not. Unfortunately though, it yellowed the paper where it was applied. I was able to apply colour to most of the areas so that it was not so noticeable in the areas where no paint was used (the whiskers)! Ack! Anyway, I am so happy that I finished the painting, and am really happy with the results. I think I might be painting a few more cats in the days ahead!

Thank you! Yes, cats can be soooo curious, can't they... that's what I love about them so much. Of course, if this were the real scenario, the bee would have been long gone, before the cat was able to so innocently stare at it so closely in wonder

The composition makes this picture happen! The dark cat in the pale grass simply makes us look where it is looking, at the insect on the yellow flower. Well done, despite your caveats!

Thank you so much Camilla! I really enjoyed working on this one, once I got back to it... but I've been in a little slump for over a week now. Want to paint so badly, but kind of at an impasse of what I should do... I was looking at your website today, I really like how you've got it set up, what with the 'magnifying glass' and all to view the detail and all. I really like your work. There will come a day when I too have some free time and will set up my own! Hopefully!

I know well how you feel; I've had a bit of an artist's block myself for a good while now. I was fortunate enough to get to go away on holiday for a week - it did wonders for my inspiration. I just had another look at your gallery (amazing!), I love that you tackle so many different subjects and media. Maybe it could be fun and inspiring trying something new, like a landscape or urban scene?
I'm so glad to hear that you like my website! It's taken a while to get it all sorted. I still plan to add a couple of translations of it, like I had for my old site, but I suspect it'll be one of those ongoing, never-ending projects that. Your beautiful work so deserves its own website, I hope you get to set one up soon! I would love it if you could give me the link to it if/when you have.

Thanks Camilla, I will definitely let you know! Did you set up the website yourself? I am just finding it horrible, trying to find the time to get about to it. I work full time, have three kids... and am trying to squeeze in painting time into what's left over with my time... not easy. Do you find that it has helped get you more work though? I have so many people who express interest, and thought maybe this is the only way to go... ugh... too.much.to.do.

I did indeed, and I can understand you'd have trouble finding the time! It does takes some fiddling to set up a website from scratch, but I think there are some great sites out there that let you use a sort of template, where you can customize the page a bit and just upload the pictures and add some text, and it's all pretty much set. There might even be free services like that, which still look rather professional.
I'm not sure if my website has given me more work, but it's very handy to be able to refer people to it who wish to see one's portfolio - more professional than referring them to deviantART.
