Ever since entering her new position as a member of royalty, Twilight has been bothered by a recurring nightmare with a highly disturbing theme. Night after night, no matter where she dreams… her dream self must also wear underwear. Boys underwear. Tighty-whities, if you will. And it’s always met with the derision and teasing of the general dream public. As if the new princess weren’t stressed out enough as it is, she’s now having to deal with these strange nightmares that prevent her from getting a good night’s sleep.

Another wonderfully creative piece commissioned by . We bounced around a few ideas before we were able to come up with this artsy kind of time transition piece showing scenes from Twily’s horrifying nightmare. It was really fun coming up with this 'day to night' transition in the foreground. Before I shaded it and added the two windows, it looked like Twilight and her clones were all having similar dreams. I think the time transition is pretty clear now... at least I sure hope it is. It'd be silly if it looked like she was chilling with a couple clone pones.

I made sure to use a few odd things in each of the dream scenes so that you'd be able to tell our purple princess was dreaming them rather than reliving things she actually did. In the left panel, we got some of those adorable shadow fillies that Twilight hallucinated up back in Lesson Zero. In the center panel, I went and did the audience up in a slight different artstyle… it’s kinda based on the shadow filly look and those really cute simplified ponies that Mr. Poniator makes , plus some other little quirky things from me. In the last panel, I dropped in a friendly Chrysalis so that the scene would seem a bit sillier when Twilight woke up and thought about it all.

Also, on a small note, this piece takes place in the same fancanon universe as that piece with Rainbow Dash’s wardrobe malfunction on the train. In this take on the FiM universe, when other ponies are accepted into the ranks of royalty, they don’t turn into alicorns, so Twilight and Cadance both stay as unicorns. Now, Cadeance is actually a bit of an odd story… in the show, Twilight refers to her as a unicorn, but in one of the books that are considered official canon, her backstory claims that she was born as a Pegasus. Additionally, her name has been spelled two different ways in the show and in promotional materials, so it’s hard to tell if it’s Cadence or Cadance. I think “Cadance” is the official spelling now, though I still routinely fall back on “Cadence” as it looks better and flows off the tongue easier (the mind's tongue? Whenever I read it, I like seeing the 'e' instead of the extra 'a'. I'm probably autistic).

Oh! Yes, alright… so, Twilight not having wings in this piece even though she’s been crowned as a princess already is purely intentional and part of the original commission request. Hope her lack of wings didn’t scare anybody too badly.
