Description
The element wheel in the system of magic for the fantasy idea I've been hammering out. This one uses a ten-element system, using elements that actually were considered elements by various pre-modern cultures. Namely, combining the Hellenic, Medieval, Chinese, and Japanese elements into one system. Clockwise from the top, they are Fire, Sulfur, Wood, Air, Water, Spirit, Void, Metal, Aether, and Earth. If you're wondering "where the hell did he get sulfur from?", the answer is Medieval Alchemy. Yes, alchemists considered sulfur an element (what do you know, they were actually right!) Along with mercury and salt. Well, mercury already falls under "metal", and salt... just didn't feel right. But sulfur is something that isn't used much, which I felt would give it its own unique spin on the elements.Related content

So it's possible someone who possesses fire, metal, and sulfur could build a golem of mass destruction among other potential unholiness?
I'm sorry, it's too easy for me to think diabolically atm.

Might be possible. Haven't put much thought into golems for this setting.

So sulfur was an element. Huh, learn something new every day.
I like some of the choices here, especially Aether and Void. You don't see those enough. And the ripple effect on the elements themselves is a nice touch - gives it a very magical feel.

Thanks! Aether refers to more or less solid light (if that makes any sense), which is what the ancients thought that the stars and planets were made out of, while Void is more or less space-time. And nothingness.
So, if you could choose five of these elements to control, which ones would they be?

Well, fire for one, because of course. Earth would be cool too, jus because the potential is so huge (instant fortresses for everybody!). Sulfur might mix well with fire, and void just sounds cool. I'm curious though, what would spirit be?

So, I'd be an explosive necromancer performing unholy acts in the deep darkness of the bowels of the earth...
Did I just make myself evil?

Basically, someone with that magic skill set, and acting as you described would be seen as slightly insane, but as long as they're not doing witchcraft, things should work out alright.
The instant the Church gets a report of witchcraft, though, it sends out an Inquisitor, who goes in with soldiers, priests, and sorcerers in order to take down the witch/warlock. Yes, "Burn the Witch" is justified in this setting. "Burn the Sorceress", however, is not.
(To get an idea as to what this setting's like, it can best be summed up like this: "Lord of the Rings, Redwall, and The Wheel of Time meet Diablo, the Cthulhu Mythos, and Berserk".)

So sort of like The Elder Scrolls - Any magic is okay, just be smart about it and don't raise any demons.

More or less.
Well, any ELEMENTAL magic is okay. Using demonic or eldritch magic is punishable by death.

Not necessarily. You aren't practicing Witchcraft. In the setting, Witchcraft and Sorcery are two completely different forms of magic. Sorcery comes from using the elemental energies (as seen in this deviation), while witchcraft involves making deals with demons and/or eldritch abominations. What you'd be doing would be legal (if frowned upon by most of society), since it doesn't involve making deals with the Legions of Hell or Cosmic Horrors.

In that case, I'll take it as my fifth.
So, I'd be an ex
