Thanks for asking. You know, the usual: trying to figure out if 5 fails ahead of a finished piece mean that I should try something else for a living.

Haha, when this thing happens to me I put the piece away from me and work on a new one. And when I am working on the new piece and I need to take a break, I go back to that old piece and analyze it. "What I did wrong, how things would look if I change this and change that.." You know try to figure out the problem.

So in the end ,when I finish my new painting I go straight to my old painting.

Point is ,all you need is a "fresh eye". 😊

Indeed this is a very good advice which I use to apply on my own work too. I usually just scrape it down and start over or put it aside and work on another or a new one.

at least you can scrape it off, my watercolour is so unforgiving

You can say that again. I might be able to save the surface, but not the work. My temperament is very similar as if it was a watercolour painting. I can move the paint around but not fix it if it's wrong without starting from zero.
Watercolour is way less forgiving and it barely gives second chances at the same time it makes up by being a way more lighter medium. Oils on the other hand are forgiving in a greater level (not for the drawing through, you can't make much from a soup of paint) but it's a heavy medium and demands space, extra equipment to take professional photos without glare and loss of the surface quality etc.Β
So believe me the grass in not so greener in either side. But personally I was a collector I'd surround myselfΒ more with watercolors than oils, don't know why, but maybe it has to do with wonder of something out of my reach.

Haha. That's so opposite, I'd surround myself with oil paintings. I completely agree with the reason behind this.

I still haven't started my oil painting journey. I am so ampt to try. Mostly because I couldn't afford those costly canvas, paints, medium and what not !! May be oneday I could afford them. 😊 I am an Indian. Art materials are so so costly as they are shipped from abroad. I work with a lot of adversity like poor quality paper, pigment, brushes. At a time I used only one old brush (size 12) for two years for my painting. Hope things change in future 😊

I can relate, and I can understand the advesities. Things aren't getting great here either and I already come up with alternative ways to keep practising with less cost. Wishing we stay motivated no matter what's in hand. Even a bic and a paper towel will do!
