Description
wind engine near my village...30mins at iso100 and f8.0this thing made such a strange noise...that was really scary...but i´m a grown man and very brave, so no problem for me
was very cold (-13°C) but i had my car and my radiohead CD with me so no problem
i´m really glad about this one...didnßt think it would come out good...the exposure could have been a bit longer than the 30mins i did...but it´s sharp enough and bright enough, i guess
take care

i thought the memory-buffer would run out.
have you used any filter? i think if the exposure is that long the image is very bright even at f8.0

no filter...there was no light...except the car light i turned on twice (in the opposite direction, but the snow reflected it!)

This is really cool! It looks like the stars are bouncing off it
I tried some astrophotography for the first time the other day with my new Nikon D50 (my first ever digital SLR), and although I got some alright photos, I couldn't get it to be 30 minutes at iso 100 and f/8. How did you do that? When mine were exposed that much the sky appeared really red and grainy. Maybe it's all the light pollution where I live. I dunno.
It's a great photo.

How do you do more than a 30 second exposure on your camera? I have a 350D which I assume has similar features, but the only way I can figure to get a custom shutter speed is to set it to bulb and hold down the shutter button, which is not fun for a few minutes.
Awesome shot by the way

well every camera with the "bulb" setting can do that...you just need a cable release for that!
with that stuff you can lock the shutter as long as you want to

A cable release?
I've just skimmed a few astrophotography pages specifically for these cameras and I believe it can be completely computer controlled, which would be awesome as I wouldn't have to buy anything and probably have a lot more options
It's a bit annoying that you can't just have a custom shutter length or a setting where it's press to open press again to close. I mean, the shutter is completely computer controlled inside the camera >.<

yeah you´re right...would be a nice feature...cause cable releases are so fucking expensive for being a simple piece of plastic, with maybe a supermini chip inside

In further reading I've found how simple it is to make a cable release, I really can't believe the prices concidering you can make one yourself with an old mini jack (or get a new one for like $1) and a switch (also extremely cheep if you can't find one)! And if you want a fancy one you could even set it up to have one button to focus, one button for shutter, and then a switch for shutter when using bulb. And it can all be made from extremely inexpensive electronics!

oh cool, how did you get a long shutter speed, does it depend on the camera?

there is the B setting on better cameras (almost on every slr and on every dslr and on some pocket cameras too)...so you need a cable release where you can fix the shutter and so you can do long exposures as long as you want
