Description Wander, 46, rents a horse to run off into a savanna on the hunt for a bird he witnessed with imbedded barbed wire in its leg.
With no one to report to, he took it upon himself to ride out solo and lasso the animal, which was a challenging and long-winded task.
The bird, male, was a protective father with chicks, so Wander managed to ride and split him from his family in order to hunt him down.
After getting his lasso on the bird, he hopped off the horse and let it go for the time being in order to protect both animals.
Horse ran off, and Wander scaled some rocks when the bird charged him.
It was dangerous, and from his position on the rocks, he basically flooded the bird until it was too exhausted to fight back.
Less ideal than what he would have preferred, but with no one to help him, he did what he could with what he had.
That was when he hopped down, and used items out of his hat to quickly numb, sanitize and get to work plucking the wire out with pliers and little tools.
Skin had grown around the wire, and though removing it meant fresh wounds and blood, Wander was quick to treat the injuries with disinfectant and an ointment to help with pain and bacteria.
Once he was satisfied with his work, he went and found the horse, watched the bird from a distance, and by sundown the animal was up and reunited with his mate and chicks!
Wander rode back, returned the horse and went on his way.

I just love stuff like this, growing up an Animal Planet buff i love good human intervention for the better
Wander is such a caring and intelligent person with a wide set of skills, this would probably be far from his first time capturing and treating a wounded animal on his own.
I really wanted an excuse to draw him riding a horse and using a lasso too, so...

As for the bird, i don't have a species name for it yet but i really like it!

I imagine it being similar to ostriches in terms of family dynamic, attitude and defensive capabilities

So it's a seed eater, not a carnivore, has a powerful kick and HUGE claws on its wings for gashing predators or competitors.
It also eats clay and sedimentary deposits from dried river beds, hence the parrot-like beak.
On its head are six fleshy flaps with rows of black and white feathers, with a similar appendage at the end of its tail.
These black and white feathers function like a zebra's stripes, confusing predators.
But this bird also induces confusion by vibrating the feathers, causing the stripes to appear fused and moving all over the place, which is jarring for many animals.

My only complaints here are i feel the horse should be bigger and maybe the bird, too, but the bird is probably fine.
Also not all animals are the same size, so maybe the horse he picked was just a little small
Otherwise i'm super happy with this piece, ESPECIALLY with Wander's face!
Enjoy!
