Have you ever given up on something so hard you just wanted to flop forward and face plant the ground while still standing on your feet?
Well....average Irkens can do that because they're short and have giant heads XD
All right, so allow me to explain.
I was working on some serious Tak head cannon stuff and suddenly the idea of where to chronologically place the M'lar incident* came about.
Welp, I found myself needing to do math and going by what I THOUGHT was the head cannon's age standards, I came up with a big jumble of crap and could not make sense of Tak's age on Devastis and Dirt.
But now I know a DIFFERENT number and it has me stymied beyond my mental capacity.
Thus, the drawing here remains untouched.
I am just way too autistic for this number shit. GUYS!
If Tak is 16 like Zim in Irken years and was 16 on Devastis, and was ALSO 16 on planet Dirt, but was on Dirt for 50 earth years, and if Tak is thus 159 in Earth years, and 159 divided by 16 = 9.9375, then how -- FORGET IT I DON'T KNOW HOW TO EVEN ASK THE QUESTION ANYMORE!
IDR WHAT THE QUESTION EVEN IS!
I guess I just want to know how these numbers all play out and make sense.
I need help ;__;
And chances are i'm missing something or over looked something or added something up wrong.

Personally I think it's like 50-70 Earth years= 1 Irken year. In Fredcook from outerspace it was mention that Zim was gone for a little over 20 years, but on earth, he was only there for only a few months. Yeah it's pretty confusing, I hate math so much...=/

Oh no, pleeze don't ask me to do *gasp!* MATH!! (dun dun DUUUUNNNN!!!) I've gotta do it twice a week in college, and while that doesn't sound like a lot it's FRIGGIN HARD! (Tak pretty much looks how i feel) >_< But ah well, looks like the guy below me left a pretty helpful comment, so I guess I won't have to 
I swear, I've never heard the 16 year old thing except for in peoples' head-canon, so I never understood why so many fans adhere to that as being Zim's Irken age so strictly. I even thought at first that it WAS something JV said in an interview or something that I missed, it was so prevalent, but nope, just another fan theory. It's fine if that's what you prefer, but it's not set in stone or anything, so don't sweat it too hard ^^

Redundant info is redundant, but it's what I have to contribute.
TECHNICALLY (by which I mean "based on everything we know and all the interviews with citations"), Zim and Tak do NOT have specific ages, not even in Irken years, so - really - they could be 1 year old (maybe Irk's orbit is REEEEALY slow) or 1,000,000 Irken years old. We JUST don't know.
So, really, that part is pretty flexible. I know everyone has their headcanons, but if you're going by canon canon, then there is a LOT of ambiguity, mingled with some minor specifics:
1. Zim and Tak are likely over 50 Irken years; Tak was talking directly to Zim (a fellow Irken) when she was ranting on in "Tak, the Hideous New Girl" - at the end of the first part, just before the commercial break. Occam's razor is your friend, therefore it's most likely that Tak was referring to Irken years, a unit of measurement they would both naturally base counting off of.
2. Tak and Zim are older than any human alive, so we can assume that's at LEAST >120.
3. In an unfinished episode, "The Trial," we find that Zim, Red, and Purple are the same age, so it's likely that height has no bearing on how long an Irken's been around; just because an Irken is older doesn't mean their taller, nor vice-versa (we see nothing that points to a connection)
4. Additionally, #3 would make it likely that Irkens simply grow and then stop, forever. They mature, then stop aging. The only way to die is from wounds or disease or something, but old aging is probably not a cause. So, all this being said...
CONCLUSION: The basic premise, that Tak is Zim's age and that that age is 16, is nowhere found in canon, so you have that working for you - you can definitely fudge the numbers and adjust them to make it fit, because the ages aren't actually set in stone. It's just that some things are waaaay less likely and others are waaaaay more likely.

Oh no, I have an OC who ages every 3 years but for 17 was frozen in this stone so his body didn't age though his soul still lived awake, then he has friends who are 70 human years but race lives for about 120 and a few immortal friends and- (Don't worry. Math- even in your own story's and fandom's- can be FREAKISHLY hard. EVEN AS YOUR OWN STUFF!)

It's very loooooong... Maybe to long... I wish I could just make a short story but my short storys are like- never less than 10 paragraphs and spam my friends. x'D I desire to make a time line for my characters ages but- "When will THAT happen?" It's so complicated I just kinda keep inching around it like a child lol. Hopefully poor Tak will figure out her answer much sooner than whenever I'll find mine. x'D

OKAY, SO, how do we know she was 16? Or how she was 16 on Devastis and on Planet Dirt? For all we know, Zim and Tak aren't even the same age- I subscribe to the idea that Irkens don't appear to physically age. Tak could be 100 years older or 100 years younger than Zim for all we know!
