Description WOO, another episode to break down!!!
To my mind, this one was all too easily forgotten about, and by myself included.
But after seeing so many gifs and pics floating about from it, i just had to sit down and watch it again.
I honestly just need to sit and watch most of season 5 again because it involves the Brotherhood of Evil, which i want to know more about.
Plot aside, the villains are truly fascinating to me, including the main one that featured in this episode.

Though it was somewhat ambiguously explained, Robin and the team were out elsewhere fighting and doing different missions, leaving Raven to escort three very young, hopefully to-be superheros to an area safe from the Brotherhood's clutches.
Which is funny right off the bat, because Raven + children = disaster.
That's a given.
Worse yet, she didn't know that she would be leading children until she actually saw them, which is probably a good thing because if she'd known, i can guarantee she would've put up more of a fight about going.
Which is immature, given their circumstances, but look at how Robin reacted to having to go on a date with Killer Moth's daughter.
Not to mention, i don't mind children, per say, but i'm not too fond of having to watch them, particularly three at a time.
I have a nephew and two cousins.
It's exhausting, but sometimes fun.
Anyway, Raven was appalled at her new task, but did as she was asked anyway.

"Good idea, Robin.
Put Raven in charge of the kids."
That slight bit of resentment for him in her voice honestly cracked me up, and even more so considering i ship them post-show.
Like i can see them looking back on it and having this conversation:
"Did you resent me?"
        "I HATED you."
It just tickles me!
So not too long after she loses the children on the train they were taking, she finds Timmy throwing a massive tantrum in the middle of the isle on another cart, to which she must drag him off amidst the embarrassment of others judging the situation.
"What a brat!" one guy said.
And man, i think most of us can empathize with being with a screaming, obnoxious child in public.
Though i have to admit, though Raven was frequently frustrated by what she was dealing with and probably came close to losing her temper several times, she did a good job keeping it together.
She was cold and irritated, but she wasn't the meanest i've seen a person be towards kids.
She wasn't rough with them, she never harmed them, and in certain moments did her best to try and defuse negativity when one (or both) of the boys, particularly, were upset.
Trouble is, she just majorly sucked at it and didn't know how to be nice, which i think we can forgive her for, given her nature and the hand life dealt her previously.
She gets a solid pass from me, especially because she still took care of them and was protective.

Things went from bad to worse when Monsieur Mallah, a sentient gorilla and the Brain's most trusted right hand man, attacked the train and tried to get the children.
Raven didn't display emotional protectiveness, but she did her job, keeping them safe and fought off Mallah.
Eventually, Melvin (the girl)'s imaginary (but very real and invisible at the time) friend Bobby was the one to finally separate the gang from the ape, which consequently also stranded them in the middle of nowhere.
Raven took the kids into what appeared to be an uninhabited home, did her best to feed them and keep them entertained to some extent, and eventually almost lost her mind.
She went outside and called for "anybody," but got Beast Boy again.
He suggested she tell a joke, and their entire interaction from that point honestly killed me.

"BB: Why did the cookie go to the doctor?

Raven: ................................

BB: *whispers* You're supposed to ask why...

Raven: Why.

BB: Cos he was feeling crumby! Hahahahah get it? Hahahahahah!

Raven: *hangs up*"

I about pissed myself when she hung up without a word, then just got up and went inside to try it out.
And of course, it didn't work, as the boys continued to fret and fuss endlessly.
Eventually Melvin informed Raven that Teether had gas and Timmy's blanket was ripped, so Raven bucked up and quickly fixed both problems.
After burping Teether and getting seismically spit on, she then took a STAPLER and STAPLED Timmy's blanket back together, and i once again proceeded to lose my shit.
And then after plopping them down onto the bed with Melvin, the trio demanded a story, which only made my hysterical fit of laughter even worse.

"Last year on my birthday, my friends got me a cake and some balloons.
But I couldn't enjoy it because my dad Trigon, this scary red demon with horns took over the world and there was fire everywhere, and this ugly guy Slade with a skeleton for a face came after me, and..."
Cue the three horrified faces of Melvin, Timmy and Teether.
"...MY FRIENDS SAVED ME AND WE ALL HAD CAKE, THE END."

I think part of what makes it all so funny is how awkward and uncertain Raven was about trying to make them content, and it was done in a way that was far more funny than cringy.
Even when she really tried, she sucked so badly at it and nine times out of ten it didn't end well, until she could find the one little thing that made everything magically ok for a little while.
But once the kids fell asleep, she smiled, showing that they were growing on her a bit.

The next day, they took a...sky...car thing (idfr what it's called) up to the mountain, only to be attacked by Mallah again.
Now this scene was interesting, because Raven not only used her magic to fight, but she used real hand-to-hand combat against the gorilla.
It's very rare that we see her actually engage in this, so it's easy to forget she can.
Granted, she isn't a martial artist or really that spectacular at it, but screw that when you have such powerful magic anyway, right?
So they fought, and again ended up crashed and stranded and away from Mallah, and the whole ordeal caused Teether to throw up on Raven, hence her priceless expression in the bottom left panel of the picture collage i have so happily provided.
They had to walk again from that point on.
Oh, and in case you're wondering why Raven didn't just fly them over the mountain, it's because Teether got sick when flying.
So, they were literally grounded.

It took until nightfall for her to get them to the safe spot, which was a temple-like place filled with monks...
Which was kinda weird, but i don't know what else i expected to be there, so.
In that moment, Raven and Melvin got into it a little when the elder of the girls insisted that Bobby wasn't real, and scared him off.
She tried to convince Melvin that it was her moving things and making them happen, that she was "a big girl" and needed to start taking some responsibility for her powers.
"You just can't see him because you're a mean lady!"
Raven, though visibly frustrated, calmly picked Melvin up and carried her back over to the others at the front door of the monastery.
When Melvin told her to put her down, Raven retorted that "nothing would make her happier," signaling the peaked conflict between her in the kids.
Raven expressed delight and relief while parting ways with them, but was given Teether's pacifier as a parting gift from the toddler.
As she walked away, she heard the boys crying and scrambling again, and knew exactly what was happening as it happened, simply because she had learned the trio and their habits.
Which was impressive and a sign of her observation, and even more so when things got "too quiet."
She rushed back in to find the children had been kidnapped by Mallah, who'd returned for a final time.
With a resounding "nobody messes with my kids," she pursued him in the air while he drove a tank in an attempted getaway.
There was a back and forth between her magic and his lasers, and eventually he managed to overpower her.
Distressed and angered by him harming Raven, Teether and Timmy unleashed their powers and stopped the tank, and then Bobby (still cloaked) freed them.
In a very sweet gesture, Timmy laid his blanket over Raven while Bobby, on Melvin's command finally revealed himself and took on the gorilla.
Not gonna lie, the first few swipes Bobby delivered to Mallah gave me chills just because seeing a giant, sentient stitch-riddled teddy bear with massive daggers for claws go toe to toe with a sentient ape was the epitome of badass and just plain weird, in the BEST way.
After taking so much of a beating from the bear, Mallah retreated, stating "This is the last time I work with children."
I laughed...again.
Raven rose to her feet and was humbled by Bobby actually existing, and then apologized.
Melvin then revealed that she had created him, saying "Just because I imagined him doesn't mean he's not real."
I find this concept fascinating in the Teen Titans universe, because as a spiritualist i can confirm that children actually do have the power to accidentally create spirits by pouring enough thought and energy into an imaginary friend.
They're called "servators," but most fade after so long.
In Melvin's case, it's apparent that her superpower is creation, and bringing that which she imagines to life, so to speak, and even being able to grant her creation with powers and strength of their own.
This is very advanced and fascinating, and was probably my favorite detail in the entire episode.

In the end, they were brought back to the temple, and Raven gave her communicator to them to call her if they ever needed anything, and then she even willingly hugged them goodbye.
To see Raven develop attachment wasn't a surprise at all, because the idea of mean, self-absorbed asshole turns paternal/maternal figure to under-priveleged children is pretty cliche, but still well appreciated.
Raven didn't change herself or her personality, but she did undergo a little more character development.
And if i'm being honest with myself, i found Raven's maternal side coming out to be...surprisingly, very attractive and evoking of her ferocity, as any maternal figure.
It looked good on her, ike a lioness or a mother grizzly bear, or...heh, a raven!
She's not great with children, but she still values them, and i think now she does even more so thanks to Melvin, Timmy and Teether.

While i thoroughly enjoyed this episode and laughed through basically all of it, i can't help but feel bothered by the lack of information provided about the kids.
We have no idea who they are, where they're from or if they're even related.
And then there's them being dropped off at this monastery in the mountains, which is fine but like...who are these people???
Eugh, i guess some things just aren't meant to be fully explained, and i can live with that.
It was still a cute episode and i enjoyed seeing Raven's character development, as i enjoy seeing with any character.
Hide and Seek was fun to watch and equally as fun to analyze and review, so if you read i hope you enjoyed!
And if nothing else, hey...the collage has some funny pictures!

See ya in the next review!

Yeaaah i think a lot of people feel that way, hence why it's taking me so long to get to it
I think part of the reason why it's not as popular is because it was the last season and had such a sad cliff hanger VvV

Not entirely, I can explain.

Teen Titans Season 5, literally was just a disastor. Robin, Starfire, Beast Boy, Raven and Cyborg were just plot devices. Used to do certain events, there wasn't even any character development between them like they used too, also it felt dragged and took so long to look and recruit for other Titans.

I only like 2 episodes in it and that is "Things Change" and "GO!" (Origin), but other then that, the season just techinally had no character development, so all the "Season 5 received positive reviews is fake news pretty much. The season went so downhill, I don't think it helped much either because head writer David Slack left after Raven's Arc in Season 4.

Glen Murakami was also demoted to executive producer which means not much involvement. Season 5 was just not planned out probably at all.

Ahhh yeah ok i see what you mean, oh damn i didn't even know about David and them having less involvement O.o
Explains a lot...
Raven's arc was incredible and pretty hard to beat anyway, but yeah i think season 5 could've gone better.
It just feels like something's...missing... :/

Season 6. Thats whats missing.

Yeah Murakami was demoted to executive producer, so what I've read. Not a good sign, what is more bizarre, Murakami was the shows's creater. So why demote someone who created it? Unless Murakami decided to give another producer ago to be showrunner. Whoever produced Season 5 was not a good showrunner at all.
