Junjie is from the Legends of Awesomeness series.
Kitten and i reject LoA almost entirely, but like a few characters and concepts.

This is my take on Junjie.

For fans of Junjie, I'm warning you that this HC of mine is drastically different from his LoA self.

If you're not into that or think that will upset you, then GO AWAY!

~~Junjie~~

Junjie grew up about the same way most everyone else grew up; not wealthy at all.

His father passed while his mother was still carrying him, thus they never got to meet.

All he knew growing up was that his dad was a great man, and participated in a war.

Though he only had stories and paintings to get to know him by, Junjie wanted to follow in the paw prints of his father.

Starting off young, Junjie always bugged his mother with asking for a chance to learn Kung Fu.
After a few years, it occurred to the vixen that her son was determined, but she could not afford standard classes.
When discussing it with others in the town they lived in (which was just two towns away from the Valley of Peace), friends suggested help from Oogway.
And just like Fenghuang's parents with her, Junjie's mother organized for Junjie to meet and train with Oogway at the Jade Palace when he was 12.
Unfortunately for Junjie, his mother could not afford to leave her job behind to make the trip.
So Junjie had to go on his own and was instructed to send notes to her, letting her know he was fine and if he made it to the Palace.

When Junjie finally did arrive at the Jade Palace, he met a 14 year old red panda cub who had had two years more training than him.
Junjie, naturally excitable and wanting to make a friend in this new place, tried to cling to Shifu, but Shifu wanted none of him.
Of course, he had his reasons; abandoned by his father and now, the seemingly only focus of Oogway, it was hard for him to accept sharing.

Junjie soon found Shifu could be quite cruel at times.
After a month of being ignored or pinned as a black sheep, the fox spoke his mind very clearly to Shifu before storming off.
Later that night, Shifu reflected and realized he needed to loosen up with the kit, and later found him in the kitchen...eating his feelings.
It was tough for Junjie to just let it slide, but he had the soul to understand that Shifu was just used to what he's had and didn't like change.
He forgave him, and in turn gained his best friend for life.

Side by side, Junjie and Shifu trained and learned Kung Fu together.
But every Summer, Junjie had to go back home until the Fall, as he still had a mother and was still loved by a parent.
Of course, an owl named Fenghuang occasionally came to train with the boys, and Junjie found her to be quite scary!

When he was 16, Junjie took a large interest in stilt fighting and found he was quite good at it.
He enlisted in some seasonal championships, and won most of them.

When Junjie turned 18, he received a message alerting him that his mother had fallen gravely ill.
He fled early, racing to get home to his mother.
Sadly, he didn't make it in time.
Junjie buried his mother that Summer, and recalled her once mentioning she wanted to see all of China someday.
Realizing she never got to fulfill her dream, he took it upon himself to try and fulfill it for her.

When Junjie returned to the Jade Palace, he informed Shifu of the events back home and what he wanted to do.
Shifu and Oogway both understood, and allowed Junjie to go out and do as he felt he needed to.

Though he traveled, he only went a little distance at a time and was sure to take it slow.
He would usually only be gone for a couple months, then return back to the Palace and stay a few weeks.
This became a very well-accepted and manageable routine.

Junjie was present when Shifu first took in Tai Lung, but when he went on a trip soon after that. he got lost in a city for several years, and did not return until Tai Lung was 6.
So the fox stayed for a few weeks, but again made his way out.
He had grown used to the traveling life, and rather enjoyed moving around and learning new things.
The further he went the more fun he had, and the more fond he was of his friends and Oogway whenever he returned.
But he did not just fun around -- he continued training, practicing Kung Fu and whenever trouble arose in a town or city, he would take it upon himself to take down the aggressors.
It was all and always a selfless act, and his greatest joy came from helping those in need and making friends out of them.
He also learned and improved his skills drastically.
He would never surpass Shifu, but he nearly became an equal and lived up to the title "master," even learning the very advanced Golden Lotus Clap.

When Tai Lung was in his 20's and was eventually imprisoned after being denied title of Dragon Warrior, Junjie returned to find his childhood best friend was suffering greatly, and growing more bitter and shut in by the day.
He tried his best to help, but all to no avail.
Shifu was plagued by guilt, anguish and diseased by the pain he suffered over his adopted son.
It came to a point where Junjie could only watch as his friend crumbled before his very eyes.
Because of these events, he decided to stay for a while and try to be there for Shifu as best he could, but the only person Shifu seemed to let in anymore was Oogway, and even then it was scarce.

In time, Shifu adopted a tiger cub -- Tigress, she was called.
Junjie worried Shifu had empty nest syndrome, and stuck around for that event as well.
He hoped that the child could soften the red panda's heart, but when it did not, Junjie bared witness to Shifu becoming intolerant even to his recent adoptee.
Shortly following, Junjie felt deep in his heart that the only good he could do his friend was to remove himself from the picture, and pray for him.
On his way out, he found young Tigress preparing to run away, as she no longer wanted to be with the angry Shifu.
Junjie knelt in front of her, and kindly asked her not to give up on Shifu, telling her a good man was somewhere inside.
He had faith that this could be turned around, and Tigress took his words to heart.
Though it killed him inside to do it, Junjie quietly left on a misty morning, and headed onward to his next adventure.
He would not see his dearest friend again for 20 years.

Six years prior to Kung Fu Panda 2, Junjie came to a place called Crater Town.
He even described it as being like an enormous crater, making a bowl of land where nothing but friendly, nurturing people came together to form a community.
But peace was disrupted when a gang of four croc bandits attacked the town.
Junjie intervened as usual, taking them on all by himself.
It was going well, but the bandits were hell-bent on their intrusion and made for a tough match.
While he was distracted by one, another came up from behind and struck Junjie in the back of the head with a mallet.
It nearly knocked him out, but he finished the job and sent the crocodiles packing.
An older couple, very grateful for Junjie's heroism, invited him to stay the night with them.
He humbly obliged, sleeping out in the living room.
But when he awoke the next morning, he found he had completely lost his eyesight.
Everything was dark.
A doctor was brought to the house, and only logic could dictate that the blow he took to the head was what had left him this way.
Junjie could only break down, devastated by what had come.
But when he woke the day after that, he could faintly make out light, and day by day his vision came back a little better until he eventually found himself to be far-sighted.
The couple whom he'd stayed with had been so patient and kind to him, and he could not have been more grateful for their help.

Junjie soon got a pair of spectacles to wear on his muzzle so he could see things close up.
Still, it was difficult for him to take in the damage that had been done to him.
He was forever grateful that he had not lost his eyesight permanently, and took this as a sign that he should only keep improving and learning.
Through this pain and time of humility, Junjie managed to find Inner Peace.

After Kung Fu Panda 2, Junjie finally got up the nerve to return to the Valley and see his friends.
As soon as he came in he could see right away that Shifu had also found Inner Peace, and was elated to discover he had even acquired a mate.
Tigress was grown, and now there was a Furious Five, and a Dragon Warrior!
It was a warm welcoming back for the fox master indeed, only someone was missing; Oogway.
Shifu later got Junjie alone, gently breaking the news that their old master had passed away just a year ago.
Once again a great blunder faced Junjie, and he became riddled with guilt over having left his friend and master alone for so long.
But Shifu was reassuring, and helped to ease Junjie's mind over past events, and telling him that Oogway's death was very peaceful.
He wasn't sick, he wasn't hurt, he was just old and felt himself to no longer be needed in their world.
This was very helpful for Junjie, and he managed to mourn and grieve much more easily with his friend by his side.
He deeply enjoyed befriending Po and the Five, too, and getting to know Shifu's lovely lady friend.

After about a month and a half, Junjie could not ignore the nagging call to leave the Valley once more.
It was a little difficult of a pill for Shifu to swallow, but Junjie promised he would not vanish for so long ever again.
Once Shifu was at ease, Junjie headed out.

In time he came to Gongmen City, and quickly saw the repairs Shifu mentioned since the battle with Lord Shen.
But he fell in love with the people, and finally met and began to fall for another fox.
Her name was Zhuo, and she did not have the most savory of lives, but she managed.
She was a very troubled thing, but Junjie helped her through it very quickly, and eventually convinced her to come home with him.
Though, he would not return with her until after the events of Kung Fu Panda 3.

Upon returning with Zhuo, Junjie finally felt that he just wanted to be home with his friends and, to him, his family.
He wanted to settle, be steady and have a real house with his girlfriend.
He got his wish, for Shifu spread word to some extra ears of his about the incredibly skilled and very knowledgeable Junjie.
In the end, the fox landed a job as a member of the Master's Council, becoming a co-worker of Fenghuang.
Luckily, his job would not take him too far outside the Valley, as his specific role was to take in knowledge and make suggestions to help improve Kung Fu teaching all throughout China.
His name became almost as wide spread as Shifu and Fenghuang's, but he was okay with minimal notoriety either way.

Later on in the future, Junjie will have a son with Zhuo named Shenghuo.

~~Past Frivolity~~

On Junjie's travels, he managed to get around intimately.
He has had a number of sexual partners throughout his time traveling China, but it wasn't all just to gain that instant satisfaction.
Junjie, while enjoying his life, was always a bit lonely and wanted a mate.
Sadly, the only way he knew how to try and find a suitable partner was to test the chemistry right away, but the females he slept with were never interested in much more than a fling or a few fun days.
Only after talking to Annchi, Shifu's partner, would he realize he needed to make a friend before he made a lover.
He took her advice, and found Zhuo.

~~Personality~~

Junjie is very, VERY eccentric.
Outgoing, talkative, clever, witty, hilarious, vulgar, outspoken and not afraid to take a few risks, Junjie is nothing short of an enigma.
Even Shifu will say that Junjie has a very wild and rutty exterior, but when one gets to know him, they also find him to be very wise, charming, gentle, and passionate.
Not to mention, incredibly knowledgeable and good at making tough decisions.
Sure, he isn't perfect, but Junjie is definitely a fun person to have at large events and parties.

Surprisingly, Junjie has great table manners and can play a very smooth, well-spoken and presentable character.
Bringing Junjie into public used to give Shifu anxiety, but at formal events Junjie always showed how capable he was of toning down his wild side.

~~Physiology~~

Junjie is more lean than anything, but still a tad thick in some areas.

His fighting style is more honed to be swift, elite and tricky as opposed to raw strength.
Due to his light-footed and windy style, his matches are fun to watch, especially if there are stilts involved.

~~Habits~~

While Junjie was in his 30's and doing his travels, he soon was greeted with the opportunity to have a little taste of the "high life," or in other words, smoke pot.
He loved it!
But not to a point where it was his whole life.
He would have some here and there, and found that the best thing to do with it was relax, open the mind up, and meditate or pray.
For him it was more than something to get high off of and act stupid.
To this day, he still smokes when he can, and prefers to do it at night, under the stars.
He even convinces Zhuo to do it with him once in a while, and is very controlled with it.

~~Triva~~

Junjie's mother had very much been hoping for a girl, but she still loved her son.
Even so, when Junjie was very little, his mother would sometimes put him in dresses and bows and have pictures painted.
Junjie hated it, but carries a painting in his travel bag from it.
Like her son, Junjie's mother was an interesting person, to say the least.

Junjie was overweight as a child!
But as he blossomed into a young man, he eventually lost the extra weight and is now quite sturdy and fit.

While traveling, Junjie carried a simple back bag that was filled with many interesting items.
By the end of his travels he had gems, crystals, rocks, small paintings, fossils, small baggies of miscellaneous materials in them, a questionable mushroom, monies, notes, small tools, a cloth for his glasses, and other small little things including a cracked marble and a majong game piece.
The few things he kept had much meaning to him, and now that he is finally settled in a home, those things lay resting safely in a special chest.
All but the cleaning cloth, mushrooms and weed, of course~.

Junjie was legit one of my favorite past characters that i ever worked on.
I honestly drew a lot of the personality i gave to Pepps the alien from Junjie, as i find wise-ass characters like this to be so entertaining and yet so endearing.
