Description ~~Octans~~

Octans are an evolved race of octopus-based anthros that inhabit and dominate the Dragon Realms (a different form of earth in TLoS).

Being water based, this species dominates Earth's oceans, building intricate living space under the sea.
Some structures are built on land, but only a very select few and are either for hunting or shelter.
All their structures are built from organic oceanic material.

Because they occupy water most of the time, Octans tend to wear tight, figure-fitting suits that enable them to move easily through the water as if they weren't clothed at all.
In other words, they wear swimsuits.

But of course, in the world of Spyro no civilization is too pristine, thus vibrant clothing colors are not commonly seen on octans.

~~Where Did They Go?~~

More than 100 years ago, octans had civilizations closer to the surface, and many did not mind to venture up and meet the many dragons, cheetahs and other enlightened species as they went about the world.

But when spiritualists began having rampant and constant visions of peril coming and war breaking loose with the birth of a purple dragon, the octans became afraid of dragons and paranoid of being swept away in war.

A not-so-vicious (though still very serious) species, they finally made the daring decision to sink their world deep within the seas, far from the surface and never daring to venture back up until they were certain war was over.

In the past century they have remained content, older octans vaguely remembering surface life and the youth having an ever-present curiosity.

Still, no one has actually come up to the surface, nor are they sure if war has actually come and gone or not, as the visions ceased long after the cities were moved.

~~In the Future~~

After the wars settle, thanks to the bravery of one young octan woman, the octan race will slowly and gradually make a return nearer to the surface and try to be a part of that life again, educating and enlightening their culture and coming out of the darkness to greet bare sunlight, stars, and the air again for the first time in more than a century.

~~Society~~

Octan society is fairly simple, with elected leaders and territory boundaries.
They have civil disputes and problems just like us, but far less severe than ours.
There are rules and standards to live by, and prisons for those who break the law.

Females are highly regarded in Octan society, as they are seen as precious and something that should be cherished and protected.
Arguing with one and yelling is just fine, but if a male Octan physically harms a female, the punishment is very severe.
As such, females don't simply have permission to harm males, but their punishment is often less severe than a male's.

In Octan society, a more attractive male will have a more bulbous, round cranium, and larger feet.
For females, attractiveness resides in their fat.
The bigger the female, the more alluring, as larger females do better at child bearing, birth, and are notoriously resilient.
Not to mention, in a more sexual manner, there's "more to touch."

Individual territories do have flags, and because Octans are aware that life exists on the surface, they display their flags in common fashion just to warn anyone possible surface dweller or foreigner that another race lives nearby.

~~Physiology~~

Octans have two legs, two arms, and four oral arms, or "oas", on their face.
Depending on the size of the Octan, most have anywhere from 18 to 24 suction cups per arm, and six per foot.
When on land, Octans are bipedal and walk on two feet, but when in the water they will use their arms to help them travel.

Octans are a water-based species that have the ability to breathe air and water.
Thanks to their complicated and intelligent biological structure, the conversion from taking oxygen from water and air is made possible.
They try to make their transitions in and out slowly, as it can take a minute for this phenomenon to take place and may fatigue the Octan for a minute or two.

Some Octans have a fin that extends along the sides and back of their cranium, as seen with cuttlefish.

This is made possible by cuttlefish also being in the class of cephalopada.

While octopuses have beaks, Octans' mouths look more like that of an elephant's with a triangular bottom lip, and the two middle oas coming together at the base to serve as the upper palette.

Unlike the standard octopus, Octans cannot change their color.
They can however, still squeeze through tight spaces and change the texture of their skin.
When angered or wanting to be more threatening, they can make their skin appear spiny or rough.

Octopuses' neurons are dominantly in their arms.
This allows them to be able to open something or fiddle around with objects while their head focuses on looking around for danger or prey.
Octans have the same function, able to divide their attention between two activities with ease given how their arms can "think for themselves."

Octopuses have blue blood.
It's copper based to make better conversion of oxygen in their bodies, enabling them to survive if they go into deeper water.
As such, Octans also have blue blood, and will blush blue when embarrassed, aroused or otherwise.
This also means they will bleed blue if injured.

While octopuses have three hearts, Octans only have one.

Should an octopus lose an arm, it can regrow it perfectly without permanent damage.
Additionally, their severed limbs can still function and feel pain briefly.
The same goes for Octans.

Octopuses use ink to hide, escape and blind or hinder a predator's sense of smell and taste.
Octans can do the same, using their ink above and below water.
Their ink is very potent, causing irritation to the eyes and as said previously, kill off the ability to taste and smell temporarily.
Octans shoot ink from their mouths after using muscle contractions to bring it up from ink sacks in their stomach.
When above water the ink jets out in a quick, powerful haul that splatters once it hits something.
The jetting keeps excess ink from lingering in the Octan's mouth when they shoot.
The manner is known as "spitting" and is projectile.

Like the standard octopus, Octans have very squishy, soft and sensitive skin.

They don't take well to being poked or prodded, thus you won't find too many sharp objects in their homes or cities.

Most of their decorations and buildings are rounded off.

When octopuses mate, the male tears off his arm filled with sperm, which the female takes and uses to fertilize herself.
The males then wander off to die.
Once the females lay their eggs, they devote the remainder of their lives to tending, protecting and guarding them, even ceasing to eat.
Once the eggs hatch, the female's body commits cellular suicide, destroying itself in the tissues and organs until she has passed away...
Octans do not so this.
In fact, they reproduce like us, engaging in traditional "human-like" sex and intimate acts.
Females have sex organs almost exactly like ours, except blue inside.
Males keep their genitals inside their bodies until aroused for protection, and their sex organs are also blue.
Mating, like with most of us, is very personal for them.
Having such intuitive limbs, intimate moments are often made very interesting by how well they can sync with their partner.

Octans birth live young and raise them to adulthood like humans do, and often only have one or two at a time.

~~Mental Prowess~~

Octans are ornately clever, using a "think outside the box" type of mindset.
They are considerably smarter than us in this way, but still have challenges like anyone.
Still, they can think in ways that others can't, which dubs them as being one of the more clever species with a lot to offer.
Most Octans can figure out tough tasks on their own.

Octans feel the same emotions as we do and respond to them the same, though most are better at hardening their hearts or staying "cold" when trying to focus on work.

~~The Octan Language~~

Octan language consists of silly sounding blubs, blurbs and garbled manner.
While it seems nonsensical to outsiders, their language actually has vowels and rules and structures much like some simple human languages.

And yes, they write and have an alphabet.

~~Belief Systems~~

Octans, while a tad naive in this way, do have a sense of something greater that commands all life in their world, and most have a sincere respect for it.

Not knowing what a God might look like (and having no conscience of mankind), they just assume Him to look like an animal of sorts, and there are a number of minor deities that they look to for help on occasion, but don't necessarily worship.

In the Octan world there are wild, primitive octopuses and cephalopods just like on our earth.

As some humans believe we come from apes, some Octans wonder if they came from octopuses.

However, they haven't yet found any definitive proof that they emerged from their wild look-alikes.

Their search for answers in the universe continues on, just as with us.

--Additional Info--

Life span is yet undecided.

Though octans are not exactly wizards, they are capable of learning magic spells if they're devoted enough.
Down in the sea they tend to harvest energy and light from glowing flora and mysterious, magical orbs that form in the mouths of some clams.~

YEEES!
THEY'RE BACK
FROM
THE DEAD!!!

Who else here has missed my octan babs?!?!
I HAVE
I was inspired to come back to them because of Finding Dory -- the octopus got me hyped!
And if you've seen the movie please don't talk about details in the comments, not everyone has seen it yet!

Anyway yes, i am going to bring back Lustra and she will have a whole new bio and outfit, too!
Like this dulled version of the original flag, her clothes will be more dull and fitting to TLoS.
This flag is faded from years of being in the water, though octan creations are very water-durable ^^

For those of you who don't know, this species was something i originally made for Invader Zim as an alien race
I've planned to bring them back into a fandom for a long time, and right now that's Spyro!
This is just a copied and edited version of the original octan bio, so it may be very familiar to some

Omg plz enjoy and i hope you're looking forward to Lustra again

---DO NOT STEAL MY CONCEPTS, ART OR IDEAS!!! THE OCTAN RACE BELONGS TO ME!!!---

-They have 9 brains, 1 main brain and a brain in each tentacle
-Their Main Brain is shaped like a Doughnut because their digestive system passes through their brain.
-They have a hard beak with poison
-It's skin can change color and texture to blend into almost every surface
-One of the male's tentacles doubles as a detachable sex organ
I could name more...
