Cynder, highly interested in Ember for reasons she doesn't yet understand, presents the young hybrid with a blue crystal because it "matches her eyes."
The golden girl of the Prophecy develops a bit of a habit for finding and presenting blue things to Ember over the course of a couple of years.

Ember occasionally gives Cynder things, too!
But more often than not, it's the other way around, and little Cyn expects nothing in return.
