Description

Pokemon grew fast, but varied on the growth. For the family of Assassins, a single year was considered the time that they were old enough to begin training. For the youngest, Nyn had just come of age to begin their training. Ayln and Cuch were older. Cuch being around 8 years old, and much further along in his training. As for Ayln, well she existed in a perpetual state of middle sibling syndrome.

‘Now~ Today we will be beginning your training Nyn. Cuch and Ayln will also participate.’ No one had thought to explain to the young child that the two would of course be better, they’d had years of experience. None ever explained it, not even when he became a young adult. The child couldn’t even speak yet. At least, not in the verbal capacity. While thoughts were easily passed toward them, their language lessons would not start for another year. An important part of the Assassin Curriculum.

Bringing out the small object, Bell used the mirror to reflect the light from a lit candle onto the ground, and wriggled it around. Ayln and Cuch reacted immediately, their eyes laser focused on it. Their claws hit the ground as they lowered to all fours, and prepared to chase the light. As for Nyn? He too was enraptured with the light. When Ayln darted forward to catch it first, she ran into Cuch, and the two began to fight as the toddler stumbled forward toward the light.

‘Good~ Yes Nyn, attack the light~’ Bell purred with delight at her son, watching them fall to the ground right before the light. It darted around them in a circle. Nyn’s eyes following it with a catlight precision.

‘Eyesight looks good.’ Xen commented as he began to check off a clipboard. Ayln and Cuch both hissed, Cuch having been pinned by Ayln by the ear with a smirk. Their tails lashing as they fought valiantly for the right to the light. Nyn’s ear’s didn’t twitch, but his body did flinch. Turning toward the two, his gaze noticed them. Watching them fight to inch toward the light.

‘Hearing is good. Let’s check light sensitivity next.’ The light was flashed into Nyn’s eyes, and he quickly covered them with a brief cry of pain. That caught the sibling’s attention. They paused in their playfight to look at Nyn. Ayln was quick to walk over, and lightly bap at Nyn. Like a ball he rolled along the ground.

‘Ayln stop that. Your brother isn’t a toy.’ Using another bit of mirror, Xen lured Ayln away, and back over to Cuch so the two could continue their fight over their light. Nyn sniffed a bit, tears on the edges of his eyes as he looked over at the two. Fighting over their singular light. His gaze was drawn once more to his singular light, moving around and catching his eye. Then he looked over to Bell, who was wriggling the mirror.

Standing up, Nyn began to wobble over to the two parents. Confused, Bell knelt down while Xen watched over her for any ‘episodes’. Both pieces were placed down as Bell offered her arms.

‘Aww, hungry little assassin?’ Bell chuckled, and her tones filled the air as Ayln and Cuch bitterly glared to Xen. Mad their game had ended. But Nyn wasn’t going for the arms. Instead, he wobbled and sat down, grabbing the mirror shard, and then also grabbing Xen’s piece. They carefully held each piece, as if knowing it could cut them. Then they shuffled and shifted around.

‘What the-‘ Xen blinked. Bell stopped him from taking the shards, and her smile grew three sizes that day.

It took Nyn a few tries, but he soon got them reflecting the candle light. Cuch and Ayln saw their lights, and began to chase after them. A happy babble left Nyn as his tails began to wag. Happy to see his siblings no longer fighting.

‘How…utterly unique~’ Bell was enthralled. Not only had he seen through the illusion of the light, he’d walked forward to claim it’s source, and use it to his advantage. That was a rare talent. Bell couldn’t deny that out of the three, Nyn showed the most promise as a potential heir. And yet…they didn’t seem that interested in fighting.

‘Put down combat skills as a question mark for now Xen. I will train Nyn personally.’ Bell saw something in Nyn that day. Something that marked him as one capable of leading. He put the needs of the many, his siblings, above his own.

“You might have failed the test, but you won the real battle,” she purred quietly.
