I wasn't planning on having it tamable; I didn't want it to just play out exactly the same as the velociraptor.

1) Well, sketch it in Minecraft style on paper first usually helps so you can visualise it.
2)If you have to sacrifice detail for the sake of the model looking readable (i.e. it is easy to see what the parts are), do so.
3) If it is a very small model (like your Microraptor), then you can make a slightly bigger model, but have it downscaled in-game.
4)To showcase: Go to 'Tools' -> 'Showcase'.
5)Texturing: Keep it consistent with the Minecraft style. i.e. Not block-shaded areas, have different shades to convey tone and depth; if it helps, use the shades on Minecraft blocks. e.g. for orange shades you could go for Orange Wool, or Pumpkin.
Hope that helps!

Dragonith designed it, it says in the description. If you plan on using it, you'll have to ask him.
