Yes, it was a successful hunt! The fur of this fox mother will be a great coat for the winter, won't it?! Ah and by the way: the fox cubs are too small for survive without their mother so they'll die very soon, too.

Hunting seasons exist at opposite times when adult animals are raising their young so there are no orphans

This is why wildlife management exists. Hunting seasons are timed specifically to prevent this from happening. The season starts well after the cubs have started fending for themselves and stops well before breeding occurs.
This man is clearly an illegal poacher.

Imbecile yourself. According to the 'About me' section here this artist is from Germany. With the exception of two federal states it is legal to hunt foxes all year round here. Technically it is not allowed to shoot females when they are raising young, but a) hunters don't care about that and b) the male fox plays an important part in raising pups too.

Well, its not like you can tell the difference between male and females. In Germany, that might be the case. And you can't just put ALL hunters into one section and say "they don't care". That's biased and judgmental. That, and its an immediate demonization of someone based purely on a hobby. It's not like you can tell immediatly that the fox is a female. You just can't look at one like a human and say "it has boobs, long hair, ect its a female" Or anything like that. They all look basically the same. Never noticed any difference my self, not at all. Not in the furs and not in the animal.

If they can't tell them apart they shouldn't be shooting that animal in the first place. It's irresponsible, his or her offspring are sentenced to death because one idiot couldn't control his trigger finger.

Umm NO. Only in certain months are you allowed to hunt. Months when the parents do not have young :/ Poachers are responsible for orphans, NOT hunters. My grandfather has hunted his whole life and he has never left orphans thank you very much.

THIS is the exact reason why where I live, you have to get a special permit on top of a hunting permit to hunt Females. I've heard getting the Female Permit is hard. In fact, in my entire family, only my Grandpa had a Female Permit, and it expired. My dad has gone Deer hunting before. He and his family always eat the meat from hunts. I will go hunting when I get older.
I saw some replies about Hunting being Population Control. That is true. While 7 Billion Humans may be a big threat down the line, just several thousand foxes can easily destroy all prey in a large area in a short amount of time if not kept under watch. It gets more complicated from here. Then the Prey, if not also kept under watch, could eradicate whatever thing they eat in an area. Look at the Yellowstone Park area for example. After all the Wolves were hunted, the Elk population surged beyond the support limit of the area. Elk started dropping dead like crazy as the area became overpopulated and a living hell for the Elk there. Then Wolves were introduced to hunt the Elks and bring them under watch again. Now imagine a scenario where the Wolves are the Humans, and the Elk is well, the Elk, or any other prey. Cause: Hunting stops in an area. Effect: The Elk/Deer/whatever population soars (Becomes Cause): The Area can't support so many Elk/Deer/Whatever. Effect: Elk/Deer/whatever start dropping dead from starvation and disease (Becomes Cause): As a result, hunting is introduced into the area again. Effect: The Elk/Deer/whatever population lowers to a point that the area can sustain.

Out of curiosity, if hunting were truly necessary for "population control", then (I ask this of the post to which I reply with as much respect as I can manage for a view which differs from my own.) why were wildlife populations readily self-sustaining before humans showed up?
Other species don't need laws to tell them not to take too many. Predator species seem to intuitively know that taking down more than they need is a detriment to survival, both their own and that of their prey. Without their prey, which is usually limited in scope of species, they truly will starve.
I believe what hunters do is to create a spiral. To kill the prey is to starve the predator, which governments use to justify setting up a "season" on the natural predator.
A bullet travels faster, and is usually more accurate, than even healthy wildlife can outrun\maneuver away from.
The same is not true of a natural predator.
I'm not the one who made the picture, but that's my take on it.
To the artist: This picture is one of the saddest I've seen on dA for over the year I've been visiting this site. Poor fox pups. It might make hunters who see it think before they shoot. I hope it does.

actually, hunters cant hunt in the spring. if you could find time, its not that hard to google regualtions. there are many regualtions to make sure the species survives. and humans fucked up the ecosystem, to the piont where some species can do far better than others and overpopulate, depleteing resources, and causing hardships for all eco systems.
