Description Okay, after spending half a year in a love-HATE relationship with Photoshop CS2, I am finally starting to get the hang of things. Here is a WIP of my entry for the latest monstersandmaidens contest, "Jungle Jeopardy." This is after six hours of work, about half of which was really figuring out what's going on in the program. I imagine I'll spend about 10-12 more hours on this in the course of the week, and then start another one ASAP to try and work out the kinks in my methods (and, besides the obvious lack of skill, there are MANY kinks in trying to adapt my painting/drawing approaches to the computer).

Regardless, I need to thank two people for helping me get going on this: (1) my wonderful wife, Camille, who patiently and professionally plowed through my computer-issues to get Photoshop working, and (2) *DocRedfield , who provided me with a great online tutorial for digitally coloring hand-drawn art (it came in very handy, Scott, thanks!). [link]

This doesn't mean that I will quit "Demon's Due," of course. The pen and pencil pages will keep coming out over the next month at about 3-5 pages per week.

By the way, this is my fourth digital drawing/painting. So, while I am certainly open to suggestions, give me some time to get a feel for how I am going to do things before you get too nit-picky or critical. Not that I'm too proud to take it... ...but I will take suggestions very seriously, and too many of them will fry my brain. Among my DA friends, Bryan, Fagashlil, Dyun, Doc, Dash, and a bunch of others kick my ass at this, and there are lots of folks out there who frankly blow me off the planet. Can't be helped--I gotta' start somewhere...

...women tied up and carted off seemed to be a good place for it, all things considered... And the whole "pulp fiction" comic-book style seemed appropriate, too.

Enjoy!

Don't be too modest ... that's pretty darn good for a 4th picture.

Shame on you! Yes, it does look a bit... er... awkward, doesn't it...? I'm sure that the tribesman in question has a knife hanging from the belt-string of his loin-cloth, and she's just contemplating using it to escape... Yes, nothing to see here. Move along! Move along!

I keep forgetting to color that purse--I'm glad you like it. Thanks!

This looks very good already for the short time you have done on coloring.

Great idea and design - I thought I was going to have this contest (for once) in the bag (no offense to anyone who has entered or will, but its time I had a shot at the title), but this already kicks ass... perfect idea and your angle/design is GREAT... You've gotten past the hardest part, in my opinion, of the coloring process: blocking in the colors. From here on out, have FUN! Glad to be a help, glad to see you try it (though I'd LOVE to see a new ink-work from you), and greta job so far...

Thanks! I've got an ink-work that is rather huge waiting to be finished. It's not a monstersandmaidens piece, but I quite like it. I'll finish and post it in two weeks when we head out of town to visit the in-laws for a few days. In the meantime, I hope to get this one a bit further. The blocking process did seem bulky, especially considering how quick that step is when I'm oil painting... Ah well. Let's see if the whole process balances out in the rest of it. I appreciate your help, and I look forward to your entry (I thought it was "Jungle Princess Daphne"--is there more?! ).

Sweet...

Yeah, there's Jungle Princess Daphne on the way as well, but I'm still working on that one... I just finished a new 'irate's Blunder', though, plus the color version of Sara's 'Summoning Redux'. Some failed commissions went to scraps.

My first Photoshop pic took me 4 hours and looked like total crap...

You'l get the hang of it with time...

Did you draw this in photoshop or scan the line art?

I scanned the line art. I did my second ( [link] ) and third ones ( [link] ) completely in Photoshop. Thanks for the encouragement!
