The next evening, Callista and Annalae returned to the Undercellar with their final captive in tow, Madame Zirena. They were not gentle, dragging the Seeress stumbling on a rope leash. But while this newest acquisition seemed distressed in her current situation, it was not apparently by her captive state nor by what Jervil planned to do to her. "She is tricky," Callista warned the rat-man. "It is likely she's seen much of this already, and she knows when and where your flaws will occur. So watch her--I don't want to have to re-capture her for you, now that we've got her here."

"I will watch her... most carefully," Jervil assured her as they moved the women to her new temporary home in the last of the cages. "Our bargain is finished now, and you are free to go."

Callista nodded and left. Annalae waited a moment longer in the shadows, adding a warning about a muttered name Jervil didn't hear clearly. "The fool will come looking for her," she told him warily. "He won't come alone."

Enraptured with his new prize, Jervil paid her little mind. "Who?" But the Cat Witch was gone.

Madame Zirena was drawn using the reference images of perditax31 . Thanks, Adeline!

Enjoy!

Note: Bookbinding and Demon's Due are a work of fantasy and fiction. The artist/creator in no way condones real mistreatment of this kind toward any woman or man, by living person, gremlin, plant, assassin, ratman, viscous fluid, programmed device, animated home furnishings, or otherworldly spiritual beings. Furthermore, the artist opposes the marginalizing and restriction of women in general by any institution, political and/or religious, including those which have individual women amongst their membership touting/promoting their own happiness within that institution as evidence that ALL women should feel the same way. This includes the religion I was raised in and which I have utterly discarded from my life over this and other issues.

it says page 143, does that mean what I think it means?

Perhaps the most humiliating aspect of slave-girl harem attire is the constant feeling the woman has that the bottom part of her outfit is about to slide down her legs into a crumpled heap on the ground.  It seems to stay up, but just barely, clinging precariously to her hips.

Anna: "The fool will come looking for her..."

Jervil: "What was that?"

Anna: "I said to Cal, 'let's go look for a pool!'"

I like Zirena's pose and expression here. She also seems to be among the few who was brought (versus under her own power) into the Undercellar still dressed...

It turned out that "That Fool" was simply the pizza delivery guy, who had paid Madame Zirena a visit bare moments before the two villainesses came calling. The seeress had stiffed him on the tip, and he wasn't about to let that slide by!

"Tell you what I'm gonna give you, Snakes. I'm gonna give ya to the count of ten to get your ugly, yella, no-good keister off my property before I pump your guts full of lead! 1...2...10! Ah-ha-ha-ha..."

It never works out very well for that poor pizza delivery guy...

I do rather like this one - Madame Zirena's outfit (of which I assume she's soon to be divested) looks more harem girl than gypsy fortune teller - and I very much approve!

Thank you! As I said on an earlier comment's response, Zirena's fun to draw in and out of her outfit. I'm glad you like it.

Just a tiny bit vindictive of Callista here, she could've at least let Zirena stand!  Which raised the question in my mind ... I know there seems to be hard feelings between Zirena and Callista, but I've managed to miss where these came from, exactly.  I do know that the Cat Witch and Zirena aren't terribly friendly, is it as simple as that?  I'm very curious where the next few pages go; I've assumed for some time that Zirena could potentially owe some of her 'powers' to certain fragments of certain beings, so it's easy to imagine Jervil being interested in her.  It feels like a shoe ... or tiara ... or crystal ball ... might be about to drop.

A year ago, Zirena's vision sent Luther to Annalae's Boudoir, where the courtesan was apparently a "victim." It had been set up to look that way by Callista to throw the authorities off of the trail they were following to the murderer of all the merchant lords. But, finding Annalae hogtied on the floor, Luther noticed the handkerchiefs that were there, part of the supplies that were supposedly stolen. He guessed Annalae was involved, and she turned the Cat Shade on him while she escaped the ropes. Luther was almost killed in the attack (got the scar on his eye from the experience), and Annalae fled her old life of high profile courtesan to hide at the Fair Harvest. Anna and Callista harbored a grudge against Zirena from that point on, but they were afraid to go after her because she might know they were coming and have the City Watch waiting for them. Jervil spied her out, however, and told them to go get her. They were only too happy to do so, getting some payback for her foiling of their ruse. That was the story of the Vision Impaired chapter.

Also, Zirena just got through the hip-high wine-cabinet door, and she's stumbling to regain her feet. Callista isn't expecting her to crawl the rest of the way, although the blonde isn't slowing her pace to make it easy on the captive.

Of course, if Zirena knows when and where Jervil's flaws will occur, then it's easy to see why he would consider her capture of sufficient importance to merit "releasing" Annalae and Callista. Of course, we all know how well that worked out for them in the long run...... Now it remains to be seen if Jervil was able to access her knowledge. to what extent he was able, and if that caused him to create contingency plans. Who knows (Jeff does!), perhaps he was sincere when he said that he was releasing them, only to realize afterwards that their recapture had become necessary. A lot of interesting questions coming up here!

I must say that, although I'm generally in favour of bound women wearing the traditional undress uniform (plenty of rope, a gag, an expression of disquiet, and nothing more), I must admit that Zirena does a fine job of rocking the Gypsy/ belly dancer costume. Nice work in particular on the draping of the veils over her thighs.

"Who" indeed? Who else could it be?

Now I've got the Men At Work song going through my head: Who can it BEEE no-ow?

Zirena's outfit was a LOT of fun to draw this time around. She's fun in and out of costume, as it turns out. Thanks!

Things come together pretty quickly for Jervil during these last few days, and then they fall apart just as quickly, it seems. Seven chapters to get to the middle of Coils of Fate where he's got the situation well in hand, and then only one more chapter to get down to a single runemote halfway through Bookbinding. Ah well. You win some, and you lose some, and sometimes you come back as a force of supernature bent on ultimate possession of all around you and the power to tear it all apart to get what you want...

Thanks for the comment!

I've definitely been looking forward to seeing Madame Zirena. Unfortunately there won't be a lot of time for Jervil to study her, since we know she's got a date with the Mirror in about a day. And Jervil's going to get his soon enough as well.

So Callista and Anna think that they are free, no wonder they were both naked when Drea showed up. Maybe it they had held their victory celebration somewhere besides the Fair Harvest things might have worked out better for them.

Zirena has a couple more images in this sequence--she's pretty influential in this part of Jervil's development. The victory celebration in question really couldn't have happened anywhere else in the city, and with the Cat Shade still there, they weren't all that concerned that Jervil would try anything. He still hadn't figured out the whole "water" gimmick, after all. Actually, the trouble for them was caused by Elina, Drea, and Luther, particularly with Luther's feelings for Zirena forcing the issue. Before the two villainesses could make good on their escape and find some new territory to exploit, Drea and the City Watch were knocking on the Fair Harvest's door...

Thanks for the comment!
