Description
If you're following this series in order, click here next .I like the close-up on her face--there are a lot of those from here to the end, actually, so I hope you guys can appreciate them, too.
In this picture, we get to see an accounting of Avora's damage to the remaining sleeper's bane--the frosted blossom is steaming to the left, and the bitten one is disgorging its "payload"--that black, bristly-looking seed that is couched in a pocket (now burst) of black pollen. If you can't tell what's happening here, Daddy Flower has the situation "in hand," tightening his (its) grip on hair and neck, and (off-scene) her hands by pushing her back forward so her hands drop down for support (he's a smart sucker when it comes to manipulating humanoid mammals, I guess). This choking motion also puts an end to that troublesome frost breath, and sets up our poor heroine for the last of the sleeper's bane blossoms that can reach her, which even now is orienting toward her mouth for another shot...
Page 26 will go up tomorrow. In the meantime, have the plants succeeded in overcoming all of our heroine's defenses (wand, hands, spells, movement, mouth, teeth)? Are Daddy Flower and his hench-plant (
Enjoy!

now u can tell the anger in her eyes... does she feel in control now?

Maybe not so much in control as defiant and determined and angry at what is happening. The key difference between this and the next page is that she shifts to panic as her defenses are all stripped away. Poor girl.

Wow.. interesting. I don't know if I've ever seen you draw a profile before. Looks really good..... just weird to see it now that I realize it. Great job, especially on the way the mouth curls. I am so horrible at drawing grinning profiles of people out of my head.

The Hispanic "Pet" on "In Rustler's Ropes" is a profile, seen from a lower angle beneath her chin, though. Yeah, I don't tend to draw profiles that much, because you have only half a mouth and one eye to use for expressing emotion. However, I really like the way this one worked out, so I'll probably start doing more of them if they'll start showing up in my head a bit more...
Thanks!

Yeah.. I know what you mean. Difficult to make it expressive enough. That's why I like DaVinci's sketches. He somehow manages to pull it off, kinda exaggerates expressions.... It will be neat to see a few more of these, I think.

And yet, Da Vinci's stuff still retained a classical aloofness--like they were "above all that stuff." Michelangelo's expressions were a bit more gritty and extreme--even when they didn't need to be...
Thanks!

Those two..... I hear they never got along too well. Da Vinci felt a bit superior to the sculptor.

Da Vinci felt a bit superior to lots of people, apparently. And he probably was. But Michelangelo was "The Man" in my book. They had an exchange of opinions in letters, although it was indirect, in which Da Vinci was praising "painting" as a medium superior to sculpting. Michelangelo's response was subtly "in your face," saying more or less that a painting that looks like a sculpture is considered good, while a sculpture that looks like a painting is pretty bad... So, which one is a higher form of art? Regardless, when I look at what Michelangelo did and how he did it, I am in total awe. Yes, I love Da Vinci's works, but Michelangelo is as close to "godly" art as mortals are gonna' get, I believe...
Wait, did you really want to know how I felt, or were you just making "chit-chat"...?

No, I'm glad you wrote all that up. I'm happy to know it.
I'd like to read these letters. I'm going to look for them. I bought a book on DaVinci, but apparently I suck at picking books online. I don't think it has the more interesting parts of his life in it, though it does have some great depictions of his paintings................... even though the book is like 7 inches big.
Michelangelo was a master sculptor.... yes... even godlike. Maybe DaVinci was a little jealous??

I think the two of them were separated by almost a generation, actually. I believe Da Vinci was seen as the undisputed master of his time, with his artistic innovations drawing so much attention and admiration from rising stars (like Raphael). He probably adopted a bit of an attitude of self-absorption and pride in the process, but could you blame him? I think Michelangelo had a similar situation, but a passion for it that burned like the sun, and an alternative artistic path to the one Da Vinci laid out--such a thing would have been a bit challenging to a self-important guy, I think. I found "The Agony and the Ecstacy" by Irving Stone to be a wonderful book--telling the tale of the painting of the Sistine Chapel. Anyway, I need to read more, including books about Da Vinci and "The Man," because I find their lives and visions so compelling.

Da Vinci had a reputation for a good reason. I can see how someone with his skill and the constant compliments might grow a big ego. The book sounds interesting. I'll have to check that out. Maybe I'll make a trip to the library sometime. They built a new one down here, so I gotta check it out anyway.

I love your face close-ups... they're always so sexually charged that I want to know SO BAD what else is going on that I can't see.... great work on the tonal values, though the smoke is a bit tough to notice right-off.

I saw the scrap and commented. Thanks for the compliments here. I love doing the face close-ups, when they can advance the storyline, because then it's almost all expressive face, which I like. As far as what else is going on outside this one (and others), I have quite a bit of confidence in your imagination...

And here it is, my last comment to respond to today. I'll just say this: I'm putting together "Chapter Three: Fair Harvest" right now, and I should start posting it in another week or so. Once I've got "Plot" all finished, I'm thinking I might seriously consider where to go with this thing. I'll email you about it then.

This pic has some really nice aspects to it: I really like the outline of her face, and her ear (ears and faces are truly the bane of my existence...), and, naturlich, her hair. I also like the big bloom zooming in on her face; looks like there are feathery little things inside it, cool detail!
You know, I really wonder how in the hell that other blossom was going to get that seed down her throat...kind of like swallowing a pine cone.

Turns out the seed is kind of slimy and squishy--I don't want it killing her to get it in her gullet. Those "barbs" on it are really rubbery, too, just discouraging any force from pushing the seed back out. But you are definitely an insightful viewer--a pine cone was the basic idea that I modified. Thanks for the praise on this one. I think it ranks up there with 18, 19, and 20, which are my favorites.

I watch about 80 or so deviants; but you're work is one of the very few (five or so) that inspires a great deal of thought and commentary. Not that the others aren't great, I just tend to say "Nice Work!" and leave it at that. Aside from your actual line work, I really enjoy figuring out what's going on in each scene, what the significance of all the details are, and where things are, or might, go next. Thanks for all the brain-candy.
