The growing solidity of the substance grasping her right wrist defies Callista's attempts to wrench herself free of it. Worse still, as she moves to try her short blade against its wiry fibers, it is suddenly drawn up towards the high shadows of the tower, pulling her bodily from the floor by her arm. Uttering a startled gasp, the armored thief spins in place, her cutting attempt foiled as she is lifted higher.

As ever, Callista was drawn using the reference material provided by Natalie at fetishfaerie-stock The upcoming material was provided to me by a custom photoshoot that took a lot of time and help to set up. If you enjoy them, please let her know.
Enjoy!
Note: Web of Betrayal and Demon's Due are a work of fantasy and fiction. The artist/creator in no way condones real mistreatment of this kind toward any woman or man, by living person, gremlin, plant, assassin, ratman, viscous fluid, programmed device, animated home furnishings, or otherworldly spiritual beings. Furthermore, the artist opposes the marginalizing and restriction of women in general by any institution, political and/or religious, including those which have individual women amongst their membership touting/promoting their own happiness within that institution as evidence that ALL women should feel the same way. This includes the religion I was raised in and which I have utterly discarded from my life over this and other issues.

Great foreshortening here. She's going to be glad she did all those pull-ups in training!

Another excellent perspective and, loving Callista's expression here (along with anticipation of the forthcoming mummification).

Thank you, and thank you! Yeah, regarding that mummification, I was a bit loathe to draw it years ago when originally contemplating it because I didn't want to cover up the female figure after working so hard to get it controlled and "wrappable," as it were. I've drawn a few lovely females since that time, and I'm really looking forward to the mummification now.

And up she goes!
I certainly wasn't expecting that and, given Callistas expression, up is clearly the direction she least wanted to go. But it makes perfect sense as a strategy for whatever's lurking in the shadows to pursue. It also looks quite awesome.
Callista looks good as always, but what really sells it is her expression. Despite being in a bad situation in the spider chamber, she still had initiative and freedom of action, even if she only used them to keep one step ahead of the spider horde. Now, she's lost both and doesn't like it one bit. I'm interested in seeing what she does next, as she's running out of options.

Thanks for the insights and compliments! I'm glad that at least some things in this storyline can still be unexpected.
And I think your assessment of her situation is spot on.
As I've drawn Callista from Fair Harvest to today, I've enjoyed this notion that here is someone who really doesn't give up until the bitter, bitter end, because she's been pretty down and out in her life and so has learned to be relatively comfortable in situations others would call "dire." All of the heroines and anti-heroines in the story put up a good fight (because those situations are great opportunities for the expressions I'm after), but Callista's practical side and tenacity more or less define her for me. She used them to defeat Deirdre, avoid being implicated by Luther in Vision Impaired, further wound Jervil in Bare Necessities, endure and nearly escape the strappado in Coils of Fate, betray her rescuer and lover to win her freedom as shown in Bookbinding (and more coming on that), survive as a starving orphan, and then win past the eye-spiders in this flashback, as you've outlined.
Of the heroines, only Elina can compare with that record, which is both the reason for and the result of the number of appearances these two have made in the storyline.
Well, that and the phenomenal, cool reference images the stock models provided...

Yeah, those qualities stand out to me as well, especially her practicality. My perspective on Callista is that for some time, she's lived with the idea that she could be mirrored at any point by Jervil and most of her actions have revolved around avoiding that fate.Β With that motivation in mind most of her actions make sense.Β In particular, it's always been interesting to me that she hooked up with Anna, given that the Dreamstalker was about the only thing that could make Jervil honor the deal they made. I'm sure it wasn't quite as mercenary as all that, but Callista did get pretty good deal out of it. Now, it also seems that she's got some other stuff driving her as well, it will be interesting to see those hungers interact with her practical nature.
I like that the heroines and anti-heroines get a chance to put up a fight, even if they were ultimately doomed to capture.Β

No problem--I'm glad you understood. English is as strange as the people who speak it, I suspect...

I think all languages are. Some expression simply is quite incomprehensible if you don't know the language completely.

I really enjoy the expressions you draw. Those widened eyes intently focusing and parted lips are nice way of showing she was taken off guard despite trying to be on guard.

Thank you! Those expressions are the lion's share of why I draw these things. Wide eyes intently focused, parted lips, head turned in a slender neck--these are the staples of my drawn world, and I'm glad you enjoy them here.
