Indeed, they are! And mine has like the ugliest hair, but I didn't know the hair was random (so you could keep starting over til you got one you like) until later.

same i got... i was like DAD!! LOOK!!! IT SOO CUTE!! and my dad bought it for me xD and then when i got home i put it in my ds and i was like YAY I GET TO BE A CYUUUTE ANIMALL <3 then i came out as a human and i was like .....whaa? a human!?!? darn it wat a rip-off... -.- xDD

So after a year of not finding my ds and longing it every weekend morning, i randomly woke up one day at 10 o clock and ran down stairs into the garage into the car and found the ds in the pocket on the seat. Thats really weird that i just kinda knew where it was O__O. Anyways, i found it and was so excited and i played it on the bus on my way to school (this was like 2 school years ago) and one day i dropped it on the floor in my kitchen and one of the hinges on the flap of the ds broke. So it didnt really irritate me, the flap/closing thing was just really... flappy. it didnt stay half open like it should if you know what i mean. It was fine though. So later i leave it in the car again...(silly me) and find it again and i was so excited and put it on the charger. It turned on but it was red so when i plugged it in it wouldnt charge and died. I miss playing portable animal crossing! I still need to get a new charger, but i honestly dont know where they sell those anymore >.> I need to check game stop! So idk if it was last summer or the year before, i bough animal crossing city folk, which i think is the exact samething but on a wii and not portable. The city basically consists of crazy redds shop there, a fortune teller, that poodle that cuts your hair (you can get that in wild world/ds one too once you have the highest Nook store) you know the room thing? well, they have a place too with a display room of the best room in the town, an auction house... and thats it. It also has both golden and silver equipment and you get to see where resetti lives (which i tell you is not under a rock. they just made him live under a bridge out in the city or something) also if you donate enough (like 1 million bells) you can get a light house or something lol either way i want my ds back!
hahah i hated my characters hair too! If it was really bad i deleted the character and started over until the hair was okay

You might be able to find a cheap used DS, since yours is kind of old and a little broken. haha. I have one of the old ones, and it makes me sad that I can't buy the accessories because none of them fit my DS, because they're all for the DS Lite. D= But I still love my DS.
I've never played the City Folk one. Sounds pretty fun, too. I haven't unlocked the barber person yet, but I heard about that.
Yeah, when I started I didn't realize that the hair would be random. I wish I would have known, and I would have started over! haha. Mine has three pigtails: two on the sides, and one on the very top. haha. I want to unlock the poodle so I can change it!

The city one is okay and has a couple of features, but never get it when it first comes out for 50. i think id be better if you got it on sale

You can use any of the pens with it, but they just don't fit in the slot in the back. I have a pikachu one for mine! But it's hard not to lose it since it doesn't fit.
Yeah, I usually either wait until games are on sale, or I borrow them from other people. I don't have the money to get games when they first come out.
