Description
Now that he's found a home in Canis Springs and is surrounded with friends like Sally (who he's now engaged to), Doc, and Mater, Lightning's been given another chance at a good life with good friends. The small town has gotten quite a bit of notice...but unfortunately, not enough.Canis Springs is now in danger of being obliterated and the land revamped for commercial use. The only way this can be prevented is to provide a dizzyingly large sum of money. Doc is fervent to protect his town, but, as he is still Lightning's crew chief, he refuses to let the racer pay out of his own pocket.
Lightning and his friends are soon forced to admit defeat, and the heartbroken husky begins to begrudgingly make preparations to leave. Then he notices a lone piece of paper tucked away in an old box of his late father's belongings...
Just as Doc is about to head home, he spots Lightning racing over to him just as fast as possible and holding something in his mouth. It's a flyer for a biannual long-distance race, running through the wilderness from Winnepeg, Canada, to St. Paul, Minnesota... And it's only a month away from the next race.
"Ten thousand dollar cash prize, Doc! This was my dad's solution!" Lightning explains. "This is how he was going to pay for my college money and this could be just what we need! I could do this!"
Both Doc and Sally are instantly wary about the proposal. "Cross-country is an entirely different game than what you're used to," Doc reasons. "And the race is in a month, you're not near ready."
"But you can get me ready!"
"Not in a month."
Though seemingly defeated again, Lightning persists. "Doc... Sally..." he looks the two straight in the eye. "He was going to do this for me... Let me do it for our town."
After a considerable pause, his coach and fiancee simply walk inside without a word. Late that night, Sally quietly returns to the old wolfhound's house. The two look at each other for a moment until she finally breaks the silence.
"So... You think it's possible?"
Lightning is abruptly jolted from his sleep when Doc seizes the boy by the scruff of his neck and drags him outside into the rare snow that has fallen on the town and shoves him face first into a drift.
"Dooooccc!!" the husky whines, lifting his face from the cold. "What was that for??"
"Training begins now," Doc announces, promptly walking back inside and locking the pup out.
Wow, took me long enough.

I dunno..... I wanted to match their personalities and looks to dog breeds. Plus, the opportunity to crossover dogsled racing and car racing is too awesome.

Yay, whiney Lightning As a dog it's even more believable.
I love the poses in this picture especially the expressions; Lightning's expression is very realistic.
The only thing that kind of confused me is the background. I'm not saying it's bad, I just would like to know some key things.
1) Is Canis Springs made up of just dogs and are the buildings behind them their dog-houses?
2)Are they so much in the foreground that that makes them look bigger than the background?

And for some reason, his whining is so endearing!
The background was really just the best stock photo I could find. The place looked like it could resemble Radiator Springs. Like in the movie, there are no humans in this world. Just animals, I suppose. And I guess the perspective is a little off.
I tried to angle them up right, but I wanted to be able to show a good chunk of the background.

I know what you mean Thanks for the clarification, the background really complements these three. It gives of a western feeling.

It's in a city called "Calico", I don't know if it's Route 66 or not.

Well, most ghost towns in the southwest are part of Route 66 from my research.

Thanks. Doc is supposed to be an Irish Wolfhound.
I want one of those.
I honestly can't remember how long the race was in the movie. I didn't have a reference to go to, so I winged it.

I'm pretty darn sure that's what Copper was. He had a Jack Russell face.
Yeah, but 600 miles could be a ridiculous exaggeration.

Adorable art. Judging by the names and copyright data I'm assuming this is based on Disney/Pixar's Cars?
