Description
Walt Disney's New TRADITIONALLY Animated Masterpiece The Princess & The Frog comes out this December 11th!*
Already the film has racked up a whopping $3.2 million in presales, a record breaker for the opening weekend of this kind of screening. The reviews are looking excellent too! Check out this hardcore awesome article on Disneylicious by
deviantART's own ! [link]
If you live in North America (or anywhere!) and you don't plan on seeing this film, YOU ARE UNCOOL. Here's why:
-If Disney profits enough from this film, it'll tell their marketing researchers that HELL YES we want more 2D animated stuff, which will result in them making more films of this kind!
-If Disney makes big bang for their buck on Frog then other studios will notice this. What does this mean? Hopefully, a return to having 2D films on the bigscreen. As an animator, I personally am getting VERY sick of seeing the same old factory formula 3D films. The animation looks plasticy, and in my opinion, the only thing 3D's really good for is special effects in live action. (Unless it is done very well, as in Pixar or Sony. Most studios, especially Dreamworks, FAIL at this.) Unfortunately, whether I like it or not, 3D's here to stay, but that doesn't mean we can't have both 3D and 2D films!
-If there's more 2D films on the horizon, then that means there's more jobs for young aspiring animators like me, my classmates and a great deal of other animators here on deviantART. Support animation. Support an art form!
Traditional animation is NOT dead, whatever that douche bag running Dreamworks Animation says. It can come back, but only if we tell the big studios that this is what we want. They might not believe our voices, but they will believe the figures they see in their bank account. So please, even if you only go to see this movie once - for the love of animation and all that is good, just go!
Welcome to Frog month guys. Happy animation loving!
HELL YES.
*This date may only be for North America. It's the date for Canada & the United States at least for sure.

Please, if you have a negative or pessimistic opinion regarding this movie, or the opinions expressed in these comments, please hold them back. The intention of this image was to express my glee at the entrance of a new 2D masterpiece into society and to share it with others. Also, please refrain from voicing any spoilers. Thank you for your understanding! I'll be drawing REAL Frog fanart as soon as I can. Thanks again!

I love the spirit, and love the enthusiasm!
It looks like Balto . . . who while not part of the Disney family (he was Spielberg's Amblimation / a.k.a. pre-Dreamworks) . . . is I guess celebrating for all of 2-D animation-kind!
And I agree with ObsidianWolfess . . . 'Spirit - Stallion of the Cimmarron' was a great and well-told 2-D movie . . . one of my favorites!
Along with you all, I too am looking forward to more 2-D!!

Them a lotta star there be
I'd love to see it in the theater but with my budget its easier to wait for it to be in the redbox (a dvd rental machine, $1 a day!). I hope its good!

I'm suprised dreamworks would call 2D dead, but I remember them saying they were doing 3D from 'now on' at one point. Didn't they make Spirit, and Balto? SPirit is one of my fav animated movies...it had like a...2d 3d combo, though.
but as for the picture, I rally like this pose, and how it's done..just so..how you'd imagine

I completely agree!! So sick of seeing the 3D films! And some of the animation in them is terrible! Pixar is the only 3D animation that I can stand watching.
Everyone better go out and see The Princess and the Frog! Go 2D!

I've been waiting too long for a new 2D animation to come out I love 2D more than 3D because with 3D everything looks...well, weird.
I'm just wondering as well, is Prince Naveen african-american/french too or is he (as so put in one critic of the movie's initial ideas) "too white"?
I think Princess Tiana is so pretty and sassy =3 Although she too is a "perfect princess" like Disney usually creates XP Why not a Princess who has a bad complexion?
Hell I should make my own Disney Princess >_>

Woah, woah woah. Why so much hating on Dreamworks?? D:
I don't know if you ever got a chance to watch "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron" (2002), but that movie definitely should not be over looked. Sure, the movie may be a bit dated, but it is still a VERY well put together animation. (I know that's a matter of opinion though.)
For what it's worth, I really loved that movie from an artistic standpoint, and I think they were far from "failures" when they incorporated 3D and 2D together in the movie. They still drew the horses by hand, which I'm certain you know is no easy task. =\
I'd really encourage you to take a look at this video on youtube, which is straight from the DVD. It goes into detail about how they worked on the movie and put the two elements together. I found it very informative when I saw it the first time. Also.. They never say traditional art is dead in the clip. I'm kinda wonder where you got that from. O.o; Anyway here is the video. I hope you take a moment to look at it: [link]
So the TL;DR of my comment is that I don't really think Dreamworks deserves all of the flaming they get. Disney has done its fair share of (IMO) terrible 3D animations. Disney should have also learned from the HUGE uproar that The Lion King created (and still creates, no pun intended) that people will always love traditional animation. They should have stuck to their roots sooner rather than later. But alas, it's good to see that they finally figured that out. I whole heartedly support 2D animation for all that it's worth and expect to see more of it in the future. There are emotions from traditional art that computers just can't generate. At least, that's how I feel.
As for your drawing, I really adore it. I love the movement in the picture and character's expression. It's really, REALLY a great picture. ^^

Someone's uber excited. XD I too hope that this helps boost traditional animation and such. While I love CGI I would also hate to loose traditional animation and the amazing things that come with it.

Yes! I'm sooo looking forward to seeing this and I hope that this brings 2D back.
I'm still in high school, but I've always wanted to take part of the movie making process and I hope one day that I can be an animator for traditional animation like you. ^^

I really want to see that movie! I'm not a huge disney fan, but 2D movies like The Fox and the Hound, and even The Princess and the Frog always catch my attention. Plus, 3D movies always hurt my eyes and make my head spin...
