Crawl out Through the Fallout Lyrics

Crawl out through the fallout, baby

When they drop that bomb

Crawl out through the fallout

With the greatest of aplomb

When your white count's getting higher

Hurry, don't delay

I'll hold you close and kiss those

Radiation burns away

Crawl out through the fallout, baby

To my loving arms

Through the rain of Strontium 90

Think about your hero

When you're at Ground Zero

And crawl out through the fallout back to me

Crawl out through the fallout, baby

You know what I mean

Crawl out through the fallout

'Cause they said this bomb was clean

If you cannot find the way

Just listen for my song

I'll love you all your life

Although that may not be too long

Crawl out through the fallout, baby

To my loving arms

While those ICBM's keep us free

When you hear me call out

Baby, kick the wall out

And crawl out through the fallout back to me

'Cause you'll be the only girl in the world

Why don't you crawl out through the fallout back to me

Why don't you crawl out through the fallout back to me

Why don't you crawl out through the fallout back to me

Written by Sheldon Allman from the Album Folk Songs for the 21st Century. 1960

Crawl Out Through the Fallout” is a novelty song written and performed by Sheldon Allman. It was released in 1960 as part of his album “Folk Songs for the 21st Century,” which featured a collection of satirical songs with science-fiction themes.  The song’s lyrics humorously address the fears of the nuclear age, suggesting that one could simply “crawl out” from the fallout of a nuclear explosion and find solace in the arms of a loved one. The song gained renewed popularity when it was included in the soundtrack of the video game “Fallout 4,” where it played on the in-game radio station, Diamond City Radio.  The juxtaposition of the cheerful melody with the grim subject matter is characteristic of the Fallout series’ use of music to create a unique atmosphere that blends 1950s Americana with post-apocalyptic imagery

Sheldon Allman was an American-Canadian actor, singer, and songwriter, born on June 8, 1924, in Chicago, Illinois. He began his singing career with the Royal National Guard during his World War II service with the Royal Canadian Air Force. After moving to Los Angeles in 1949 to attend the Los Angeles Conservatory of Music, he appeared in notable films such as “Nevada Smith,” “The Sons of Katie Elder,” “Hud,” and “In Cold Blood,” working alongside stars like Steve McQueen, John Wayne, and Paul Newman.

Allman also made numerous TV series appearances during the 1960s and 1970s.  He provided the voice of Big H in “CB Bears” on CBS and played Norm Miller in “Harris Against the World” on NBC. Moreover, he was the singing voice for TV’s Mister Ed and wrote songs for the show, including “The Pretty Little Filly with the Ponytail” and “The Empty Feedbag Blues.” He never recorded the longer versions of these songs.

As a songwriter, he was the lyricist for the theme song to “George of the Jungle” and worked with Stan Worth to create music for several game shows, including the 1970s versions of “Let’s Make a Deal,” “Masquerade Party,” and “It Pays to be Ignorant.” In 1960, he released an album titled “Folk Songs for the 21st Century,” which featured novelty songs with science-fiction themes, such as “Crawl Out Through The Fallout,” later used in the video game Fallout.  He also co-wrote two comedy horror-themed stage musicals with Bobby Pickett, known for the hit novelty song “Monster Mash.” These musicals were “I’m Sorry the Bridge Is Out, You’ll Have to Spend the Night” and its sequel, “Frankenstein Unbound,” with the former being adapted into the 1995 film "Monster Mash".

Sheldon Allman passed away due to heart failure on January 22, 2002, in Culver City, California, at the age of 77.
