Description I believe these Romans are cavalrymen, as they are reputedly wearing Roman Cavalry helmets. This is around the second half of the 3rd Century AD.

These are infantrymen. They adopted these helmets around this time for the infantry as well.

Yeah I actually found that out. I was looking at some books about the Roman Army and some still said that they were only Cavalry helmets. However, other sources have said that it was discovered that the infantry used them as well. Specifically around the time of the 200s AD, or the "Century of Crisis," for the Roman Empire.

Well, most recently it even started to be doubted if cavalry used these helmets at all. They are still commonly reffered under term "cavalry" helmets but thats classical example of how rigid and dogmatic sholarship can be before something new which is in conflict with what was originally held as dogma is intruduced even in case that new thing is actually correct and old dogma wrong. So although these helmets were maybe also used by the cavalry it is very unfortunate that Robinson classified them under name "cavalry" helmets as that is misleading name for it.

Yes it was in the 200's. When Emperors were constantly overthrown. It is remarkable the empire survived.
