Description
He had been there. From the moment he heard the sweet melody of the instrument he held dear, he'd gone to listen. For seven days, Pierce sat in the cover of the trees, big blue eyes gazing painfully out. He had recognized the instrument instantly. No others could capture the same sound, no matter how hard he had searched. Still, he couldn't bring himself to step out from the cover of the foliage. A pain still lingered in his fragile heart, and seeing him there everyday made it ache. How he did miss him. He missed his company and would give anything to have it back.It was his fault. He had let a rumour take over his judgement - hadn't even approached Mordi to ask if it was true. It had hurt him so badly, and his emotions were so weak.. He thought he could trust him. It made that inner demon flare. Did Mordi even know? Pierce glanced at his tail as it flicked back and forth along the ground, much in the same manner as a cat. By now, the flash was long gone, and the young boy was reduced to his normal self. He had, however, traded the ridiculous over-sized shirt he always wore for a more comfortable hoodie. His little hands were stuffed into the large front pocket, his body leaning back against a tree. The eighth day had rolled around, and Pierce sat waiting for Mordi to come and play his violin.
There was no sound, though. Curious and slightly alarmed, Pierce decided to investigate this change. He crept closer, still too ashamed of his behavior to come out of hiding. He wasn't surprised to see Mordi underneath the grand tree, though his eyes narrowed in a confused manner when he noticed him scribbling something down and then leaving his violin where he had been sitting. He wasn't going to play? It disappointed him, and he felt empty, as though Mordi's music was what kept him going. In a way, it was.
The curiosity itched within him. Why would he leave his beautiful instrument laying there? His gaze flickered back and forth for a moment, and finally Pierce gained the courage to step out. He shuffled nervously over towards the all-too-familar tree with a stab of guilt. The walk seemed to take an eternity, but he had finally made it. Pierce looked down at the violin, the flapping of the note in the wind catching his attention. He bent down and ever so gently freed it from the grips of the strings.
Malachi had been teaching him how to read. He was getting so much better at it, and it was a time like now that he was glad for it. Those big baby blues stared down at the paper. They grew wide and tear-filled the further he read. He managed to finish the note, but by then his legs had felt weak, and that throb in his chest only worsened.
Pierce fell to his knees. And he cried.
Great heaving sobs choked him, the tears streaming down his cheeks, splashing down onto the violin. How could he have been so stupid? He had ruined the best thing that had ever happened to him. He was a fool for treating Mordi the way he had. Pierce doubted he could ever forgive him now. All of his emotions suddenly poured out at once, and in the end, all he could feel was numb.
Wiping his tears absently with his sleeve, Pierce sat against the tree and pulled the violin into his lap. He gazed down at it as he snuffled, trying to calm himself down. His fingers brushed over the old instrument, and he stayed that way for awhile, staring down at the violin. His fingers found every curve and every groove. He learned the feel of it, and he loved it's soothing effect. It was then that Pierce raised the instrument to his chin and coaxed the bow over the strings. The first few notes came out sour, but he fell into the rythym, letting the song take him away. He had been working tirelessly in the hopes to impress Mordi. He had, after all, wanted to learn how to play just for him. Now he played, body swaying as the notes danced. He didn't know why he was playing, but it just felt right to him. In a way, he supposed that he had been hoping that Mordi would appear so that he may apologize and share his true feelings for his beloved.
