Megamind is GodThere is the philosophical theory, to some people, that the Christian God is a selfish one. Personally I think this sounds reasonable. God created us because he wanted company and companions. He was lonely. God wasn't satisfied with having his angles to serve his every will because they were only servants to him, not freethinking companions. However, God wasn't completely selfish. When creating us, God didn't have it in him to make us fully and only love him. It wouldn't be satisfying because we didn't choose to love him.
This is just like Megamind and Roxanne. Even though Megamind has the power, and I'm sure he had thought about it many times, he could never create something that would make Roxanne fall in love with him. He wants her love and acceptance to come naturally, not forced. Roxanne has to decide on her own free will because it means more; accomplished and real. He wasn't completely selfish.
I'm not quite sure, and I tried looking it up, however failed, but I know there is a theory that Angles are a type of mindless drone. They aren't the souls of past lives on earth. God created them to serve him. They aren't as freethinking as humans are. My analogy for them is: brainbots! Angles are basically like brainbots however, not like Minion. They are meant to serve Megamind and obey his commands fully. They only have a slight free will and knowledge, basically to know enough to just move around where they should.
Roxanne is more than a brainbot.
We are more than angels.

I'm a Christian, and believe it or not, I'm NOT offended by this, because my own mind sorta went in the same direction.
Both Megamind and Metro Man arrived on Earth on Christmas day in 1979(yeah, I figured out the year based on weather records in Michigan), and of course, we know the significance of that day. We also know of their rivalry that eventually ensued, with Metro Man being the one compared to God, due to his superpowers. However, now that he's retired to make horrible music(though with a decent producer, he might actually crack the Country charts a few times), people will soon forget him. His "sphere of influence" really didn't extend beyond Metro City, anyway; most folks in other parts of the world will have never heard of him. He never did anything of lasting significance, and probably never will.
Now that Megamind has started to realize HIS full potential, though, think of what he can do for all of mankind through his inventions and astounding intellect! This man has his own DNA lab in an abandoned power plant, for crying out loud! He has the ability to find a cure for cancer, to produce weapons that can painlessly and harmlessly contain large numbers of people, eliminating the need for lethal means, which could certainly change the face of what we think of as "war". He may just indeed wind up saving us from ourselves. Long after he's dead and gone, children all over the world will read about his accomplishments and their benefits to mankind in their history books, and his name will be a household word throughout the planet, as people everywhere are able to live longer, happier lives due to his influences. No, that doesn't make him God, but I would have trouble believing that his parents' decision to send him to Earth, of all places in the galaxy, didn't have a bit of a "nudge" from a higher power.
Yes, the angels...I am SO glad you did bring up that they are NOT the souls of dead people! I guess we can blame Hollywood for that error. Traditional Hebrew belief didn't even depict them as looking HUMAN; that's right, no pretty women with lovely wings and white robes, folks! The highest order of angels, the "Seraphim", literally translates "flaming serpents", so they most likely looked more like our concept of dragons, not humans! It is also interesting that the angels who DID try to show some autonomy and disagree with God were cast out of Heaven...to become Lucifer and his demons. There is not much evidence in the Bible of angels saving or protecting people, either. They were actually creatures to be feared, at least in the Old Testament.

Wow, I didn't even connect him being born on Christmas! That makes it even better! and wow, now, how did you figure out the year exactly? And are they legitly in Michigan? Does it say that in the comic or something?
Yes, I've read so many stories that have Megamind doing all sorts of things for our world and communities. It really would save us. Your comment on how his parent's sending him to earth could have been by God, I like that. A lot. It's interesting and you could make a great story out of it. God had his parents send him to earth to save us because he knew we were going into self destruction. We needed some higher power brained person to speed it along because we wouldn't have been able to save ourselves before we would have destroyed ourselves.
Oh yes, Hollywood likes to gloss things over. People watch and believe it so much it almost becomes the truth. And yes, there were angels that rebelled and those were sort of like a "malfunction".

If you have the DVD or Blu-Ray, watch the scene where it shows the satellite view of the Death Ray's impact, which hit right across the bay from where Megamind's lair was. You can clearly see that it strikes along the eastern shore of Lake Michigan, just north of where Muskegon, MI, is located. On the DVD commentary, the director says that Metro City is a "Great Lakes city". That large body of water seen behind Megamind as he falls at the beginning of the movie is Lake Michigan.
