Spaceman immediately came to my mind, the lyrics are quite fitting for his thought process during and after his encounter < : ) there are still stars, though!!! Little shiny bits, there are still things to learn, pretty things, shiny things, along with less pretty things, but the stars are there!

The missing ear also has meaning, (RIP Floppy ear - died for the sake of symbolism); it means the loss of innocence, how his naïve, black and white view of the world shattered in that instant.
