Personality:

The Charles Desrosiers as you've known him in his first year has returned to Hogwarts completely changed. His customary polite grin, quiet confidence and silent leadership? Gone. He's regressed, really, and may come across as a completely different person. He is less inclined to snark about, much less prone to speaking out when things don't seem right, and in short, has adopted the personality of a frightful little rabbit.

He clings around to groups of people and if anything, he is eager to please. Anything to get people to like him, anything to assure him that he still exists. Oh, is your shirt wrinkled or tie crooked? Don't bother fixing it, this Charles won't even bat an eyelash. He's become aware that his past neat-freak compulsions irked people quite some, and in an attempt to keep from annoying anybody, keeps quiet. He is equally prone to panic attacks when things don't go right or when people are cross with him, so please excuse him if he turns tail to hyperventilate. He'll - he'll be fine, just give him a minute or two.

Charles is fiercely loyal to those he considers his friends, and won't hesitate to come to their aid if they need it. He very much craves friendship and is petrified of losing those dear to him, and it shows in the way he carries himself.

He just can't bear to be alone.

History:
Charles was born into a pure-blooded family, and hence is unfamiliar with some non-wizarding customs or terms. He holds nothing against muggles, however, having vacationed in muggle tourist spots more than enough times than he can count. He just doesn't bother to remember how to use a laptop, let alone remember what it is.

He doesn't get along with his parents as well as he used to, which is why Charles would rather avoid talking about his family, thank you very much. He lives with his parents in France, but scarcely sees his father around the house anymore (one could even say Charles goes out of his way to avoid him when he's home). He very much dislikes his older brother, Lucien, who flaunts his status as the heir of the family fortune more than enough times than Charles can bear.

And why the sudden change in attitude? Good question. Ever since Thai's death (dubbed the 'Owlery Incident') during his first year, Charles has been plagued with thoughts and feelings of guilt, believing himself to be a prime reason for the Hufflepuff's passing. One might have noticed his sulky behavior and snappish attitude throughout the end of that year, and with time, that attitude has turned him paranoid. Very, very paranoid. What if he loses all of his friends this year, just as he'd lost Thai? What if - what if everybody comes to hate him? He hadn't ever really had any friends before coming to Hogwarts, and the people he'd met here are all he has. But continuing on.

The summer holiday hadn't been kind to him, and jittery as he was, Charles had been eager to receive letters and news from his friends. They'd promised to keep in touch, after all. But as the days turned into weeks and weeks into a month, not one letter had come, turning Charles into a neurotic, paranoid mess. Convinced by his older brother, Lucien, that his friends had all just abandoned him, because come now, Charles, nobody really likes you., Charles returns to Hogwarts with the firm belief that his friends are not really his friends, and that they will all leave him the same way that Thai had, and so he pushes himself to appeal to anybody and everybody, because he needs someone. He needs friends.

What he doesn't know, however, is that all the missing letters and summer packages sent by his friends had been destroyed by his brother, who so enjoys toying around with Charles's head. Charles remains ignorant of this, however, and continues to blame himself for both Thai's death and the 'loss' of his friends' care for him.

Other Info:
-Charles appears to be naturally gifted at wand-magic - curses, jinxes, spells, he'll probably be able to do it without much practice. However, he is awful with generally every other subject, as he tends to fall asleep in class. He's a bright student though, having read many books to pass the time as a kid - he's just too lazy to read any of the textbooks and prefers to recite what knowledge he remembers from memory.
-He has frequent panic attacks due to his paranoia, and clings clings clings. So if he freaks out a bit after something you've said, don't worry about it too much - you're not a jerk at all, he's just much too sensitive. : |b
-The long hair? Yeah. He spent all of summer keeping vigil at his window for an owl to come, and hence forgot to properly groom himself Merlin's beard!. He hasn't really realised that his hair had grown so long : |
