Description The weather was disappointing to say the least. It was pouring and humid, and that meant mosquitoes. I added it to my list of reasons to be miserable and started my long walk towards the spot where the bus would pick me up.

After half an hour of waiting, I started getting restless as I always when I stood in one spot for too long. After an hour, I was getting extremely annoyed. The bus shouldn't take this long, should it? But then I heard the obnoxious squealing of brakes, and the bus came around the corner. I quickly fussed with my plain outfit; a sudden fit of self consciousness hit me. Was I dressed right? Would I stand out? I hated standing out. I nervously tucked a strand of my long red hair behind my ear.

The bus stopped in front of me, and its doors opened. As I walked up the stairs, I realized just how much I did stand out. Every single person on the bus was wearing the same matching t-shirt, all blue with the camp name (Windblown Pines) written across the chest and a picture of a crescent moon over a forest.

Someone towards the back stood up. "Hey guys, look! Fresh meat!" He called, and everyone else back there started cracking up. I saw another kid a few rows from the front slowly rise up and wave me over. I realize that she's not wearing a shirt either, just a purple hoodie, and I'm grateful, for up until that moment, I had been frozen.

I slid into the seat next to her and tried to melt into the seat and hide to escape further embarrassment. "Thanks for helping me," I whisper to her.

"No problem. Those guys are just jerks to anyone who aren't in there pack." She shrugged at me and turned to stare out the window. I thought her choice of word was kind of weird though.

"You mean like a clique?" I ask for clarification.

"Of a sort." She says to the window. I continued to push the conversation.

"What's your name?"

"Jessica." She answered than she turned."What's yours?"

"It's Elena."

"Why are you here?" She asked me.

"My mom used to come here apparently. She died a few months ago."

Jessica didn't give me the usual "I'm-so sorry-you-had-to-g-through-what-you-did" pity look I was so used to getting in response to telling someone that. Instead she looked slightly confused.

"I meant: what's your specialty?" She cocked her head at me.
"Er… excuse me?" I responded. Apparently I chose the wrong person to sit next to. She obviously wasn't as bright as I had originally assumed she was.

She sighed. "Obviously you're new. Just stick with me for now. You'll need all the experience and help you can get here at this camp." Then she turned and went back to staring out the window, making it known that she was done with the conversation.

I groaned and put my head in my hands. If this summer was going to turn out anything like this bus ride, it was going to be a very long and very weird one.

interesting..."fresh meat" and "pack", eh? I wonder if lycanthropes are going to be in this story...and why in the heck did Jessica and Elena not get their t-shirts? someone paid for this camp trip, this calls for a strongly worded letter to the camp organizers for this oversight! seriously though, I wonder why Elena would feel that Jessica is "not bright" because she asked Elena what her specialty was? these are odd kids...and compels me to go on to Part 3, hopefully some answers lay within!

well the "pack" appears to be using them as something else to create a "us vs. them" situation, it's a valuable prop in the story
