Description
The ground is damp and very cold, as I was uncomfortably aware while I woke up. Now just let me state that I am not the type to wake up in an unfamiliar… well actually I am, but there’s never the usual drunken revelry that usually precedes waking up in an unfamiliar place.I’m a vampire slayer. Not that I go running about slamming a pointy piece of wood into anyone with sharp teeth and an aversion to sunlight. Two years ago Two years ago vampires came out of the coffin (so to speak) and demanded equal treatment and rights. Unfortunately, for the less law-abiding vampires that meant adhering to laws against murder. That’s where I come in.
By now most large cities in the U.S. have departments concerned solely with vampires and enforcing “Undead Norms and Laws” that the Legislature and the Head Council of Vampires agreed upon after almost a year of arbitration. There are still arguments over the specifics, but a vampire murdering a human was defined as an explicit no-no. I am in the violent crimes section of Vampire enforcement- any murderous vampire within the Dallas area gets to meet his or her end at the edge of my sword. Yes, sword. Stakes are handy for pinning a vamp down while chopping of its head but don’t actually work to kill one. Speaking of swords and stakes, I need to find mine. Unfortunately that means I have to stand up. At least this time there’s no broken bones to make it really difficult. Don’t think I’m new to the law enforcement and ass kicking gig. It’s just that I’m not a Buffy and well, vamps get a pretty hefty dose of strength in exchange for the whole undead bit.
Which is why I hate fighting in a forest so much- far too many trees to be thrown against. They are helpful as a brace when trying to stand though. The sun is already up with bars of light falling through the trees, which makes my sword glint within a pile of dust that was once a vampire. That bit about a vampire turning into dust after being killed? Not true. However they do tend to fall into dust once sunlight hits them- no matter if they’re dead or not. I limp toward my sword, place it in its sheath, and hold my stake in my less injured hand. I begin heading east, squinting into the sun and hoping my car is in that direction.

No- I mentioned that the previous one I wrote was fanfiction and in the story there was merely the pop culture reference to Buffy
