Description My first sock monkey! Done as part of Creative Challenge. I had never made a sock monkey before, though I have admired and loved them for most of my life. I have fond memories of playing with a pair of traditional red heeled sock monkeys with my twin sister at my grandma's house. Thanks to the Creative Challenge and some tutorials, I have now entered the arena of sock monkeys! I'm giving it to a friend who is expecting soon so I made all the parts soft and baby appropriate. I also wanted it green since we don't yet know the gender of the baby and figured green was neutral enough, but the St Patrick's Day theme was incidental.

The green hearts on the hips are pieces of craft felt sewed in place where I thought the fabric was looking thin. Eyes are also sewn on craft felt. The nose is embroidery (I'm so proud of that!) and a ribbon is sewn around the neck and down the front to look like she's wearing a jacket.

wow! my first sock mokey looked like it was hit by a car :/ its right arm was extremly skinny and the left was really fat, one ear fell off, and the face was crooked

People need to stop making sock monkies. They are just too cute! And when there are a lot of them, what does that equal? Cuteness overload.
Very cute. Love it.

Thank you! The ears are kinda big, haha. I'm glad you think it looks friendly. There was some debate in my house whether there needed to be a mouth or not. I decided not..

the ears are big, but i think that's part of what makes it look friendly. it's exaggerated in a round, appealing kind of way.

does that even make sense?

and i agree, a mouth is not needed.

That is incredibly adorable. I hope your friend loves it, and that their child enjoys it too when s/he comes along.
