Mmm, even half a decade later, that salt is just as delicious as it was before.

if indominus were actually more snake-like, i'd like her design a lot better

In reality, the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park/World are more of a combination between these two creatures. Think, reptilian exterior, bird-like, active movements.

As someone who's both interested in paleontology AND a JP fan... I'd recommend you, and the others doing stuff like this, realize that you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. What I mean is- all the time and energyΒ you spend telling people the things they like are bad and they should feel bad for liking them? You're wasting it, because you're just making them far less likely to listen to you. People don't like to be criticized, or have their toys taken away- that makes them defensive AND resent you, and thus be far less open to what you're saying.

Instead, a far better approach would be to go, "Yeah that's cool. You know what else is cool too?" And show them accurate dinosaurs.

Because hey, then you're not taking their toys away- you're just putting more into their toybox.Β  I feel that more realistic dinosaurs would gain more traction that way. Instead of taking away, add. Instead of making people feel bad for liking Jurassic Park, say that their opinion is valid, but hey here's this other cool thing you can like in addition to that.

Basically... if you stop insulting people they'll be more open to what you're saying. I feel a vast amount of feather resistance is due to this- I know for one seeing things like this makes me less sympathetic even if I already know that JP's dinosaurs aren't realistic (and I even agree real dinosaurs are just as cool), for example.

Because it's entirely possible for both to be cool, you know, and for other peoples' tastes to be respected even while educating them. Take a more positive approach and you'll get more positive results.

Just a suggestion.

Honestly, yeah. Iddy is one of my alltime favorite movie monsters. I had NO idea that I was still capable of feeling the same kind of raw, primordial DREAD that the original Jurassic Park instilled on me as a child. The fact that I latched on to all the ways that the T.rex could be outwitted, only for her to show up and just... defy every one of them... it really struck a nerve!

Plus her design is just brilliant. It's basically the uncanny valley applied to a theropod. She's not any one dinosaur, or even entirely a dinosaur at all. She's some kind of nightmarish dinosaur-based monster! The way it doesn't conform to any one family, the way her fenestrae are so deeply indented, the mishmash of carnosaur osteoderms and coulerosaur bristles, the long, vaguely humanoid arms that just seem wrong on her body, the way her mouth always seems to open just a bit too wide... Really, she just OOZES presence, and I adore her~

Ignoring the feather issue (though definitely a problem), how about the fact that indominus is "designed after" Giganotosaurus, and by designed, they made a Giga with longer arms and extra features and called it a hybrid. I would have loved it if they used a Giganotosaurus, a huge predatory dinosaur that took down prey longer than blue whales (though in a pack of course) over some "hybrid" dinosaur that gets all the attention leaving poor Giga hidden in the shadows from the pop culture love it really deserves. They could have just created a Giga and given it the DNA for the plot points as a new "Super Dinosaur" of sorts (or hell, even a hybrid who just isn't hybridized with other dinosaurs). What kills me though is Giga is in the mobile game because they didn't want it looking like Indominus so they gave it a stupid head that looks nothing like a true Giganotosaurus (that and the most pointless and also stupid looking hybrid in the game).

Yeah, there are many things they could've done differently. They definitely didn't need to create a new dino from scratch, there are so many great ones to pick already. If they just went with a carnotaurus or giga or something and genetically engineered it to be 5x bigger that would have been scary enough.
Hopefully they will do better in the next movie (which they announced some time ago)

I actually like the indominus rex because its the only dinosaur with actual feathers on it. Although, it's design is still boring, and would have looked WAY better if the concept artists got to make it more accurate.

What? It has no feathers. Unless by feathers you mean those spikes protruding from its arms, which carry no resemblance.

Imagine this: jurassic world purify's it's dinosaur d.n.a, and clones feathered, scientifically accurate dinosaurs. people have mixed feelings about them, so the park then clones a skin-wrapped, scaly, old-fashioned theropod to appeal to the awesome-bro crowd. with big teeth, a loud roar, and a ferret-like urge to kill everything on-site. and a twisted, cunning, and violent nature of a chimpanzee. this creature is basically a weapon. and represents mankinds desire to get what it was promised as children. and it ended with a tag-team t-rex and yutyrannus raised together from chick-hood, teaming up, and killing it, and the 2 hairy theropods roar over the dead corpse of the scaly i-rex, showing that the real thing is better than fantasy.

So, by that logic, the years of work that Tolkien put into LOTR were wasted because it was fiction? Bullshit.

Besides, fiction has dragons. Real life doesn't.
