First of all, that watermark is really really disturbing. It consumes half of your view. Other wise it's a really nice view from a really nice angle and taken at a really nice moment.

Though I have to say I like the other version better. No matter how less color you think there is in the photo, that's a lot of color, and it completely changes the mood of the photo.

It's commenting month at

Personally, I need to say up front, I'm no fan of the DeviantART watermark. It's always dead center, and it obscures often the most integral part of the photo, making it appear all fuzzy/blurry.

That said, you've managed to really bring the overcast in great focus; the bridge and the rocks really add in to that effect. The weather seems dreadful, but the break in the clouds looks a bit too bright/nearly overexposed. This while the rest of the photo is really, very dark.

I took a look at the other version of this photo, and the contrast is more present in that one; perhaps you could adjust it to add in more contrast?

Your description mentions this being the rising sun, and I feel horrible saying, I didn't get that feeling from this photo - more an overcast moment - but more so in the other version.

Thank you for your critique. I know this photo not about sunrise. I didn't have too many photos were the clouds weren't taking over

the scene. I actually missed most of it. The weather took too long to clear up. I'm to try to fin another time to catch a sunrise.

Thank you again for the comment

Deeply appreciate your thoughts.

Ah, yes My sunsets and rises never come out the way I want them either - the weather is always meddling.

My pleasure

This piece definitely has potential - I really like the way that it is set up.  The angle of the clouds
pulls the viewer's eyes from the upper left corner to the bridge, which urges their eyes to travel
horizontally to the left, leaving them to follow the triangle shape that the rocks make to the shore.
It's something that a good chunk of us forget about when taking photos.  Great job!

I do have a question, though: why black-and-white?  To me, you lost a lot of the mood and contrast
when you made the conversion.  Granted, there isn't a lot of contrast to begin with (it looks like there's
a little bit in the middle of the left side of the photo).  Shooting the ocean when it's cloudy like this is tricky
at best.  While the image is a tad dark even for my taste, I really like the way that bridge looks against the
sky.  Have you thought about brightening the image and adding a little boost in contrast?

That DA watermark is the bane of my existence.    If you have photoshop (or gimp), it's easy
to make a personalised watermark that doesn't cover up the photo like this one does.

Random afterthought: this looks really good as a square-crop.  I normally don't work in those porportions
(rectangles att the way!), but I happened to stop with the top of my screen around the crest of the "a" on
the watermark and it definitely caught my attention.  Everything lands on the thirds really nicely and shows off
the excellent composition you have here.

I know. I also go for black and white. I felt like my original photo didn't have a lot of color to enhance.

I really can't stand the da watermarks either. I was kind of in a hurry to post this.

If you want to see a square-crop, it's on my instagram page and it's not black and white [ link]

Gotcha, I see what you're talking about.  It does look better in black and white.  I always ask myself that question whenever I think about converting.  That new crop looks great!
That beach isn't too far from where I'm at, too!  But since it's so close to a big city, I haven't gone yet.  Dx

Amen re: the dA watermark! It renders the image pointless! This image succeeds or fails on subtleties, IMHO, and the dA watermark distracts from those entirely.

I like the depth in this photograph from the shore to the bridge and then the sky. The contrast between light and dark is also nice. The movement of the waves in the early morning is also captured well and I can just barely hear the lapping of the waves on the rocks and shore.  I think perhaps as a way of experimenting with the piece, if you were to crop out some of the rocks in the front that are very dark or brightening up the piece a little would help improve it. I think it is a bit too dark in its tones of course this may just be my computer, too!

Where is this? Looks kinda like US 50 between Annapolis and the Delmarva Peninsula.

The first idea that comes to my mind as I see this is... the vision of apocalypse

Because You've chosen this picture to be black & white,

it gained a certain mood altogether with the unstable nature.

The picture as a whole gives the impression

of anxiety and foretells a thunderstorm coming.

The remains of light are swallowed by the clouds

moving  fast  and covering the sky.

Altogether, I find it a very good 'portrait of nature'

This is so cool the contrast of light to dark is perfect
The bridge/boardwalk adds to the contrast
The immediate attention grabbers are the rocks right in front
And the light in the clouds
Creating a very well composed photo like this one is pretty hard and even though I'm not a photographer
You have a great shot here
Hope you do more like this
