I don't know why I had this idea...
I really don't...
Oh my, what was I thinking?
I found out that Luigi's name translates to famous warrior. Mariowiki and several name websites say so and I found that so funny, that I decided to make a comic about that. The only warrior like person I could think of was Link, though.
But, whatever!
After discovering that, I translated all the names!
Well, I think I don't need to explain Peach, the Toads or Daisy, but maybe Bowser.
His name actually don't means anything, but it is a reference to the dish gukbap, what literally means 'Soup with rice'.
So... do you see the rice in the soup?
The only name I didn't translate is Mario's.
'Mario' means either man who lives by the sea or man with lance.
This whole comic made me interessted in names even more.
I just had to look up my name!
So, Fanny comes from the Italian Francesco, is an English name and means 'The little French person.'
Sorry, I had to tell you because I found that so funny.
Mario's hat looks weird in panel 3... and I can't draw toads ... I mean real toads that well. Sorry, about that.

... Well, Mario and Luigi do live right next to a river. And just outside of Toad Town, which is a port town. So... That works.
... Apparently Mario can also translate as 'Manly'... Which works for him in some ways? Not in others...

Oh! What I understand, Luigi's name is a pun of the Japanese word "ruijl" which means similar. Because in the old games, Luigi uses recolor Mario sprites. I got that info from this episode of Did You Know Gaming.

You know, every name is actually made of some words in another language, mostly Latin.
And so the name Luigi, which is the Italian version of Ludwig is made of with the Old High German words hlut, meaning loud or famous and the word wig, meaning warrior.
That's what I meant.
