Long time no talk here, meh - the past weeks were really busy with commissions, convention preparations and workshop preparations...
About this piece:
Mercury, Latin: Mercurius is a major Roman god, being one of the Dii Consentes within the ancient Roman pantheon. He is the patron god of financial gain, commerce, eloquence (and thus poetry), messages/communication (including divination), travelers, boundaries, luck, trickery and thieves; he is also the guide of souls to the underworld.
Mercury had essentially the same aspects as Hermes, wearing winged shoes (talaria) and a winged hat (petasos), and carrying the caduceus, a herald's staff with two entwined snakes that was Apollo's gift to Hermes.
This is a piece I did for the "Ten-by-Fotolia" competition. Learned a lot and was so much fun to do.
It did not win, was probably not mainstream enough - even though I thought "girl-with-wing-on-heads" is such a mainstream topic over here that it at least has a chance... However, that was the best piece I could get out of the stock images they´ve given out to use. (At least 3 had to be used)
The rest of the used stock is from my own and fractals rendered in Mandelbulb3d. Photoshop, Cintiq, 15 hours.

Gorgeous!
The details in the helmet are amazing! It's a pity that it did not win the competition, it certainly deserved it!

This is amazing. I love all the believable detail on the helmet-like piece on her head. It is a good contrast to the background. The eyes're glowing prettily, and just make you stare in amazement.

I thought for sure this was a painting. Just astounding. Must've taken a lot of time, I imagine. Great work.

Thank you Bob, actually it took around 15 hours for the composition. Rendering the fractals took way longer but having a library of those, I can´t put that really into account

The fractals are really amazing. You don't notice them at first, but they do take it to another level. What software do you use to create them?

Thanks for the feedback! The solid fractals that resemble bottom or walls were done in Mandelbulb3d, the lighting circles and overlay effects came from a software called Amberlight, pretty new and easy to use. I try to get into Apophysis but for most of the time it takes too much time to create what Amberlight does in minutes

Thanks so much for letting me know about Amberlight! I'm checking it out now. I've been looking for a good fractal generator for some time. As you say, Apophysis is just too difficult to get anything useful out of it.

Glad you found the hint useful. It´s certainly not as sophisticated as Apophysis, but it does a good job when you need a fractal look without spending too much time on the results.
