On ONE hand that hat is such a cute hoodie. It is creative and kitsch, and novelty...
On the OTHER hand, it is so Christian. It is birth! She is being reborn, in a sense, head first, emerging into the world a new. And that's quite a heavy concept.

Haha fine, I admit to noticing some of the darker side of stuff but it feels more like an immature joke so I set those ideas aside. I guess it doesn't help that some of my favourite artists draw copious amounts of naked people, it rubs off on me.

I think stuff isn't necessarily immature if used without obviously immature function. If she was crying and squealing and emerged from the mouth of the fish in a divorced vignette it would be immature, but there are plenty of repetitive images in nature you just can't avoid. Hell, even car engines work on the principle of sex.
This kind of use is stunningly simplistic and yet not obvious to most. I wouldn't abandon it, but employ it if possible through the character's character, not with sick visual humor. When I was in animation i was always trying to halt a huge dearth of subliminal porn the designers and board guys were trying to place into shows for their own jollies, so I am unusually attuned.
I only noticed it when I saw a fish's mouth was a suspicious triangle shape, which triggered off my sex-mind to ply your lurid subconscious! Or maybe it was your lurid conscious. Lotta fun going on, though.

Yeah, I'm aware of the existence of fish hat, also I think White wears one at some point in Tekkon Kinkreet. A key difference here though is that it's an actual fish on her head, not just a hat. :D
