Before becoming a robber and a full-time inventor, Charlie was in the Airship Air Force of the British Army. He was a Captain and led a full battalion of blimps. But even at that time he already worked on some experiments, for example the pipe he's smoking in the picture has been built by him, and has a filter wich reduces the toxicity of the tobacco.
