First colored piece on my tablet!
I always wanted to color this piece and finally i have to tools to do it justice. Never digitally colored anything until now and holy crap was it addicting. Too much fun.
Expect a lot of colored versions of my old stuff coming up.
hopefully this means i'm back on DA.If any of you coloring pros want to give me tips please do! Especially on skin. I'm using Corel Painter Essentials 4.

Nice stuff! I can't give specific tips for Painter since I'm inexperienced with it but I'd look up a lineart tutorial since I thnk your scanned lines are a little pixelated.

yeah I saved the original piece in a low quality file. I'd never thought i'd get to coloring it, haha. oh wells live and learn.

That's pretty good for a first attempt! Only thing I'd say is you need to decide if you are gonna cel shade or actually render. Whichever you choose, just make sure the entire image (or at least the focus) is treated that way so the piece will look unified. Good luck!

This may sound like a stupid question but what does "actually render" mean? I'm pretty sure i know cel shading (i just think of Wind Waker and Viewtful Joe).

It's not a stupid question...what I mean is, if you look at the skin and how there are about 3 distinct shades (highlight, base, shadow) that is cel shading. "Rendering" would be where you're blending the colors to create a smooth transition (i.e. parts of Canary and Huntress' costumes). It really doesn't matter which you choose, but sticking with one will give the image cohesion, imho

Gotcha! so for comic-style would you recommend cel-shading over rendering? or does it just really depend on what the colorer?

It's up to you. If you look at ~lastscionz he does cel shading, but `Bakanekonei renders. It's whatever look what want to achieve. Although, some artwork can dictate which style works better. It's probably best to be competent in each style if your choosing coloring as a career.
