Day 20
So I decided to start off today with a little vacation on the beach in the early morning, when it was still cool. But also, mostly, so I could let the whole team get a chance to socialize with our newest member, Dan the aron. I started the morning off by letting them all out at the Pokemon center so they could -together- hear my decision on who would be placed in the PC to make room for Dan.
To the displeasure of all, it was Jasper. As much as I love the little weasel, the research I did last night in the pokedex leads me to feel he has the least potential for strong growth of the current team. Future techniques he could learn, and potential physical statistics for his species, just didn't convince me that he wouldn't become the weakest member of the team later in our journey. As we carry on, our opponents will only get tougher, and more dangerous, and I cannot allow myself to put his safety in jeopardy if he can't do the same. However, as I watched each of my pokemon in turn embrace Jasper, sadness in their eyes, I resigned myself to compromise. I promised them all that each time we reached a new pokemon center, I would bring Jasper from the PC so they could play together and tell him about their adventures. This seemed to placate them, though Lucius was still sour as we all walked to the beach.

No one played with Dan at first. They all sorta grouped together or didn't, in Lucius' case. He just sat down in the sand and watched the waves, probably thinking deep thoughts or craving a magikarp; hard to tell really. Dan tried to play with Grawl and Mickey, but they walked away and left him behind as they had a mud ball fight. Dan was put off, but made the most of it by thrashing about in the sand by himself. This continued for about five minutes until I gently suggested Mickey actually play with him. Okay, I did get a little stern, informing Mickey of his duty as senior pokemon to make sure everyone on the team is welcomed, and Jasper would be ashamed by their behavior. A little guilt tripping can go a long way, even with pokemon.
For the next hour they played together, Mickey building elaborate muddy sand castles (he's secretly a mud sculptor apparently) that Moof and Dan would team up to destroy. Grawl didn't join in though, and Capaldi spent the whole time sunning himself. But it's a start!
After the beach we set off for Mauville, training Dan along the way and getting him on par with the others. And after lunch at Mauville City, we're headed for Route 111, and the next leg of our journey.
