Is this traditional or pencil? I love your sketches like this but I can't tell how or what gives it that sort of 'echo' effect? Like the lines almost have a 'glow' on them? I'm not sure how to explain it, but I would love to know how you achieve it?

Very beautiful piece and great expression. I guess you made some digital drawing on the original pencil drawing but personally I doesn't care, it's a very beautiful piece of art based on traditional drawing skill and blackening the lines makes it pop out nicely.
